Why can't I find AsmPrgm on the 83+? And when I use it on the TI86, why does it never work? It always gives me "ERROR 07 SYNTAX" on the 'AsmPrgm' line! What else am I supposed to put there?

To run any assembly program on the TI-86, type "Asm(<progname>)<ENTER>". Otherwise, TI-OS chokes on the AsmPrgm token.

Yeah, but why is that? I'm sure *someone* has gotten it to work. Anybody have a clue how to make AsmPrgm work?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Chessmaster 86 released

AsmPrgm is easy to use. Just put it at the beginning of a program and write the rest of the machine code program in hexadecimal on a separate line (or separated by a colon) from AsmPrgm.

Reading the manual that comes with the calculator also helps tremendously (Chapter 16 Programming).

AsmPrgm is the token you put at the beginning of an assembly program you type directly on the calc. You can't use the mnemonics, you have to use the op-codes instead. This is for the 86.
Example:
In the program editor:

AsmPrgm
C9

This is an assembly program that returns immediately. C9 is the op-code for 'ret'

Oh........ so:
1. must be contained in an actual program variable
2. must be topped off by 'AsmPrgm'
3. must *not* have quote marks
4. cannot be executed by typing <progname> <ENTER> on home screen
5. must be executed as Asm(<progname>) <ENTER>

How do you get rid of the colons in the program editor? Or do you just leave them in?

When did the ticalc.org posting community turn so horribly annoying and plain oblivious to the technical aspect of the calculators? Back in the day people posted here and actually knew what they were talking about.

And another thing, what is up with this little kid ripping on dux gregis' code not being optimized, when it was a beta release (hence the <1 version number)? It's not optimized? Give me a break, this kid's coding sucks, and his code isn't "optimized" at all. Frankly, you should watch out when you mock other people's code (especially when your own sucks).

And to all you people begging about ports, get off your a** and do it yourself.

I agree with the first part ... ever tried the AI vs AI mode? It's an absolutely useless feature he put in there to try to justify saying that his program was better than TI-CHESS. And you know what happens? It repeats the same positions over and over again ... and there's no way to exit. Unless of course you remove life support ...

There's a theory that states that there is a point where every long-running forum, news board, message board, or chat room turns into a discussion somehow involving Hitler or Nazis. At that point, it is time to kill the board/room/thread and start all over again.

Sounds like Nazi tactics to me ;-)

It wasn't their fault that their leader valued power over human life. Nor can we be sure it was his fault, are men (I include women in this) responsible for our actions?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Chessmaster 86 released

Man as a race is living, breathing, and intelligently - I use THAT term relatively speaking - race. We know the difference between right and wrong, and actually understand it. So does a dog? Yes, but it takes training, and they don't actually "know" that it is wrong, they just know that if they make a mess on the floor, they get spanked, which hurts, so they shouldn't do it. So yes, they, and their leader, was responsible for their actions. And while it wasn't their fault that their leader valued power instead of human life, it was their fault that they followed him and did what it took to get that power. The excuse "I was just following my orders" doesn't really cut it.

It is their fault that they decided to ignore the humanity of all the people they killed. They had a choice. They were not forced at gunpoint to kill 11,000,000 people. In fact, one must assume that if one is not forced to do something, then one must enjoy it somewhat. It is in the nature of the human animal to do what one enjoys. Therefore, at least one (probably more) of the Nazi soldiers ENJOYED killing those people.
