"it's a semi-real word, used buy 'l33t h4xx0rs' everywhere. I have no idea what it means, but I know it's some sort of general exclamation denoting happiness or a sense of victory."

http://www.w00 t.org/about.ph p (n o s p a c e s):

Nobody really knows when w00t was actually started. We're sure its been around for a least a couple of decades. It seemed to become popular used word on a horrible online game called ARC. We belive this happened because many members of The Pink Bunnies used this upon victory in the many online games that they played. Since the Bunnies, used this term so much, and played so many games online. It spread rapidly throughout the world of online gaming.

There then became variations of the word, some commonly used ones were "wh00t" "woot" "whoot" and things of the sort. There have even been some totaly different, yet somehow similar words that remind us of the word w00t, such as "fl00p" and "p00p". Now, near the ending of this millenium, and the beggining of the next, w00t is still thriving online, and even out in the real world.

Use it as an interjection or a celebratory statement! As in...'Hey! I just upgraded my 56k modem to 1.1 SDSL. w00t! w00t!'. Works every time. True it's an independent clause, but really the best clauses are always independent. w00t.

w00t belongs to gamers the world over. It seems to have been derived from the obselete 'whoot' which essentially is another way to say 'hoot' which itself is a shout or derisive laugh. But others maintain that w00t is the sound several players make while jumping like bunnies in Quake III. Still others want you to believe that it comes from the phrase 'wow loot' used in multiplayer RPGs many moons ago. Fiction or fact? I suppose you'll just have to decide what 'w00t!' means to you...

policy11:

\"w00t\" began its long and tumultuous history in the days of elite haxors on the most basic of Unix servers. From this point on, I will consistently be using 1337 5[]D34|< so be warned. In the days of these most primitive of h4x0r5, it wasn\'t the most complex of tasks to gain access to basic Unix servers. However, as time evolved, it became much more tricky, with increased Firewall protection and file encryption...so anyway... As these h4x0r5 got more 31337 with their methods, they developed a saying, to tell the world of their hacking achievements...the saying was \"root!\" In servers, the main directory, which leads to ALL other directories and files, is called the ROOT directory...thus, when a h4x0r got ROOT directory access, he would exclaim over the network \"root\" or to his friends. This became quite an accomplishment, and the universal sign for when you\'ve been hacked. As time went on, and 1337 speak was developed, root began the innevitable transition to \"r00t,\" where the O\'s were replaced with 0\'s (zero\'s), as is the case with 1337 speak. As evolution continued, and slang became mainstream, the common saying \"What what\" to an accomplishment made its way onto the internet. Soon after, some newbie h4x0r5 begans saying \"what what\" instead of \"r00t\" and this made the more 31337 h4x0r5 quite upset, since they were disgracing a hacking pasttime. To come to an agreement, then two sayings were combined over time... combining \"what what\" with \"r00t\" giving you \"w00t!\" Now w00t is commonspeak among internet inhabitants, not only for hacking but for anything in general...people say \"w00t.\"

no, it would be more like Rusty Wagner (creator of the most popular emulator, vti (ticalc's #1 most downloaded file)).

see joe has created ion (#6 on that list), but his program is only for 2 calculators.

Rusty would have passed a million long ago if vTI supported the TI-83 Plus to the extent that it does the other calculators.

It doesn't support Flash ROM at all. It also doesn't support any OS above 1.12. There are rumors that a new version is in the works but people are also saying that the project is going to be dropped entirely. The project is open source, so if anyone wants to add 83 Plus support, they can. I know a couple million 83 Plus owners that would be eternally grateful.

I believe that VTI does not have support for Flash Apps (which would include OS upgrades), though I think it has at least limited support for archiving.

Right on the front page there is a link entitled "Developers." You can download the SDK from somewhere in there. It's not exactly the best, though. It's a lot slower than the real thing and it doesn't read long keypresses. This means, if you hold down a key, the emulator counts it as being a bunch of single keypresses rather than one nig long one.

Good point.
I tried the emulator once and it messed up my calc so I had to reload the OS...maybe someday I'll try it again.

Here's a question:
Why is the TI-83+ the calc with the most new files each day? Why is it kinda the most used calc of the TI series?
I'm not saying the others are bad, but anyway.......

(I appreciate the comments made unto my comment. So cool! 8^)

HAHAHAHA!!!

I pity you, Anson. Did VTI really do that?

The answer to your question should be fairly obvious. (And then again, I'm in your Algebra class) Most teachers recommend the 83+ for use in school, but (unfortunately) our school can only afford boring TI-83s. What kind of a district is this??? Most other schools (at least in Houston) use TI-89s in school. Grrrrrrrrrr...

Also, the 83+ happens to be a rather simple calculator compared to the others and was designed with high school students in mind. This is the main reason why schools recommend the 83+. This is also why the 83+ has the most programs. As for the 89, AP Calculus at my school is rumored to be the only class that allows it.

umm...someone doesn't know how to look in the archives...

Look in the 86 ASM games archive and go to the "P"s. There are two there, pheonix 1.5 (the original, I think it is almost exactly like v 7.5 or whatever for the 89) and pheonix III 0.30, which is a different, almost demo version.

Yes I know how to look in the archives...I meant like the actual 89 Phoenix ported to the other calcs. I already know of that Phoenix, but the 89 Phoenix has like 3 ships, 5-6 weapons, it's a thousand times better than the 86/83+ Phoenix...sheesh...

In addition, look at the animated GIF file in the 89 Phoenix 7.42 and compare that to Phoenix 1.5 for the 83+/86. That is the reason I want it ported. (DUh!)

Ion86 is by Clem Vasseur (I think that's how you spell his last name) Unfortunately, it only works with 83 Ion games and only a few of those ... most of them give wierd errors.
