Oh, I guess it does. I was just wondering about it, since everyone I know has a windows machine (with the exception of one mac). So, do a lot of people here have one?

Anyway, I'm so happy!!! I just made my first assembly prog for the 82! It's a tron game. It keeps highscore too. Yeah! :):):):)

Go to the community section of ticalc.org and search for users by OS choice. The number of returns is more than I would have expected. Perhaps I am underestimating the size of the ticalc.org userbase :)

I happily use Linux/KDE on my desktop computer. The OS is generally chosen by programmers / developers or unix enthusiasts though, so that is why you probably don't see your neighbor using it.

I am also very happy with Linux. After I installed it, I found myself using it more and more than Windows. Today, I booted into Windows to clean some stuff up, after about 2-3 months of using only Linux. Ugh. You kinda get used to stuff not *randomly* crashing after 8 hours of uptime.

And it's really nice to see development like this (the USB thing) for Linux.

I guess you also have to consider the version of Windows you are using. Windows ME sucks :) I don't know about Windows 2000 or Windows xp. But, of 3.1, 95, and 98, I think Windows 3.1 is the most stable! I've never had a problem with it, except that all current software doesn't run on it. I have a 95 in my room, and a 98 in my parents (the one I am using now) and they both work fine, thought the only problem I have had with them is for no reason some of the icons will change, but when I restart, they fix.

Icon problems..heh.

When I ran 98, I decided to change around *all* my icons by changing the entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE \Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ explorer\ Shell Icons.

For some reason, I couldn't change them back...

Oh, did you use regedit to do that? I don't touch that unless I have to. The one time I used it was to get this crappy aol stuff of my computer.

Actually, a couple of years ago I heard of a program for the mac that displays the current time in "beats" - 1,000 (I think) of which there are in one day.

When dealing with Windows, I have to wonder why you wouldn't use the TalkTI DLLs... They support nearly every link type and every calculator, and nearly everything for you (transfer dialog boxes, conversions to and from the file format, etc). Of course, the "official" TalkTI SDK says you can only use it with CBL/CBR... but that's what #import is for =)

Forgive my ignorace, but how do you use it for the calcs since the official SDK doesn't explain how... and what is #import?
I wanted to have my visual basic program automatically send things to my calc but then was unhappy to see the TalkTI thing say it only supported CBL/CBR.

But, this is not a solution for Linux users since TI does not support Linux (yet ?!).
About conversion to & from file format, it's implemented (but not completely) in the tiffep library.

The TalkTI SDK does not support the USB link cable or the homemade parallel link cable. As for the black and gray links, when making FastLink I find it easier to have a couple pages of code compiled directly into the program than to have to distribute separate DLLs for these cables.

BTW, the next version of FastLink (which is Windows-only) will have support for the USB link using this new USB driver - that support has already been coded and tested :-)

You're right of course about the parallel cable - TI would have no reason to support something they didn't make.

But you're wrong about USB - TalkTI supports all TI links made in recent times (i.e. gray serial, black serial, USB) as well as all calculators. Don't trust what you read in the SDK. It's meaningless. Just download TIConnect (to get the DLLs), and use #import (in VC++) to get the interface files for everything (import all the DLLs in the Program Files\Common Files\TI Shared\TalkTI directory and if you look in some of the other directories, there might be other cool things like auto-detection). I'm not sure how this would be done in Visual Basic, but it's probably similar.

Well it's fairly simple : it's not Free (as speech).

And our goal is actually to provide a totally free (as speech) TI framework, so... :-)

That is of course your option... and as often happens in that case, those who want everything to be "free" will end up unable or unwilling to use programs that require the TalkTI SDK, thus spiting themselves of that functionality. Their option.
