Xeontech Beta 1 Released
Posted by Eric on 28 December 2001, 21:03 GMT

Xeontech Beta 1 Macross has released the first beta of Xeontech, their flagship Action-RPG game engine for the TI-89. Users can create their own RPGs that Xeontech then runs (read the documentation for more). Go download it.

Isn't that a bit of an abuse of the z80 compiler =)

PS: Anyone who doesn't see what I'm referring to should check out the scripting information

I like to think of it more as a slap in the face to the 68k. Long live the z80!

Man, this looks nice; I wish I had a TI-89 (but then I'd have to learn to program it, and I don't want to learn 68k asm; and of course C is out of the question)

As to ARPGCS, who can say? ARPGCS is amazing, to write the software that is. But the output's problem is that it lacks functionality. You can't have conversations. It feels more like a mod than an RPG.

C's much easier than ASM (either z80 or 68k), especially if you know JavaScript or PERL.

Even after I got a good rant aout people submitting ridiculously bad programs, they continue to do it. For example:

1. "Credits" - a program that helps you display scrolling text...

Disp "Hello"
For x,1,50:End
Disp "Blah"
For x,1,50:End
... etc.

2. "RAND: the random number generator"
OOH BOY ANOTHER ONE!!!

3. "The shape creator"
...
five minutes of programming...

OY!!!

No offense, but man, it's pointless. First of all, probably most of the authors of those programs probably don't even read these boards. Second, every new programmer thinks their first programs are cool, especially if they haven't even been in the archives/message boards much yet.

ya... i looked through the new progs for a couple minutes (too many to read all of them...) and some of those were so ridiculousely outragous that i think ticalc should start clearing out programs like that (or put them in a "we do not recomend these for downloading, the authors just felt cool that they are now an 'author'"... in fact, i uploaded a ngetchx() number getter thingy, and it didn't make it in to the archives (thankfully.. i was young at the time)... but that thing was more useful than a random number generator that, get this, DISPLAYS RANDOM NUMBERS!!!

Congrats Mikel. The response has been as good as I hoped. I look forward to seeing what kind of scripts the community can make for Xeontech.

1 thing that i found annoying was that you can't move diagonally.... you don't have to add 4 more pics, just use side facing pics for diagonal movement (or add 4 more directions)... i just found that annoying... other than that it's a great game.

On the Macross Message Board, there has already been a discussion about diagonal direction. I don't think Mikel is willing to add diagonal direction just yet. I do think that it can be done the way you say it can, but you have to convince Mikel.
