TI Connect Announced
Posted by Eric on 18 July 2001, 11:02 GMT

I'd like to apologize for the recent lack of updates...the whole ticalc.org staff has been jetting all over the place this summer. Personally, I'm approximately 9,000 miles from my usual news-posting location (a.k.a. "home"), but anyway, onto the news. Justin Clifford sent me word of the next-generation TI-Graph Link that TI announed a little while back. It's known as TI Connect, and includes features of the TI-Graph Link software plus a bunch of new ones. Find out more information here. TI Connect is scheduled to be released at the end of this year, but of course, this estimate might change. Check it out anyway.

You are right, it looks really cool!
Really good for all those multi-calculator owners.
Also, the fact that one will no longer have to say what Graph Link one has or what COM port its located on is really nice.

Meanwhile, first reply probably.

Disregarding this thread because it's pointless. Yes, if you consider several months ago "a little while back" then you could consider this news :) TI-Connect was announced quite some time ago :)

I have not noticed it

Even though I found out about the cool blue edition of TI-83 Plus before any TI calculator site did, I rarely visit the Texas Instruments website, and I do not check for updates that much.
This was, in fact, news to me.

Oh! The TI-83 Plus Blue calc was at Target on the calc box... is that where you saw it?

TI-83 Plus Blue edition? You mean like the Game Boy Color? LOL I really don’t care what color mine is as long as it can do math :P

I've known about it since the new site design was announced. I thought that everyone knew about it. When I read the article, I assumed that it was out early.

Something that would be really nice in TI-Connect is if you could send files directly to the archive in the TI89 like in the TI83+. This would make file sending much eaiser.

sending to archive

I have a 92+ and an 83+ among other calcs. While sending files directly to flash rom would be great it would still crash when garbage collecting.

Re: sending to archive
David  Account Info

I noticed that. It seems like they could have made the link smarter so it could wait on the garbage collection.

this has already been accomplished by TiLP.

Both TI's own software and some others (TiLP I'm told) can do that.

Re: Re: Re: TI Connect Announced

with TI linking program i can only get it to work on the 83+ and not on any of the 68k calcs.

Re: Re: Re: Re: TI Connect Announced
lalu

The "Calculator Backup" can do that (send files with the "archived" flag to the archive), and backups are group files too, so I'm sure it's possible in principle in the GraphLink software, it's just not implemented correctly.

It's about as useful as the "Me too!" postings on usenet 15 or so years ago that gave AOL such a bad reputation. A slightly more terse form is "AOL!", in reference to the number of bandwidth-wasting "Me too!" comments posted from AOL users.

gorion Account Info

Saying first comment or first reply or second comment is nice because you are saying: I was the first one here, I was the first one to do this. It feels great, especially on such a popular site.

     20 July 2001, 11:43 GMT

Re: It is nice, though
mbuchman  Account Info

well, the idea is to reply to the article (even though this isnt), and if all you are doing is saying what post you are, it is taking up space, and is just more to scrool through. it would be a lot better to have x ammount of good comments, rather than half of them being pointless.

(its looking like i am going to have to get over this first post thing... maybe i can just put a filter on my internet explorer to block that phrase)

Well you know there’s always someone who has to. From the look of this thread though it seems like people do actually care about it, otherwise they would just ignore it like I do. If I was admin I think I’d just delete this whole thread :P I’m sure they delete comments that just say “First comment” without any other content. It isn’t technically against their posting rules to include “First comment” in your post, but this whole thread is off-topic. Best thing to do is just ignore it. It’s only a few extra lines to scroll through anyway.
