Super Mario v1.0 for TI-82
Posted by Eric on 8 June 2001, 06:40 GMT

Super Mario v1.0 Esteemed programmer Sam Heald has released Super Mario v1.0 for the TI-82 (CrASH), something that probably should have been made a long, long time ago. As you can see, the graphics are excellent (they've been adapted for use from the TI-86 version by Bill Nagel). A few extra features, such as the use of fireballs, have been added from the TI-86 version. External levels are supported as well, of course. Enjoy!

Now if only I had an 82...
j/k, but I can't get it to work with ASE on VTI 86:(

Does anyone know why it doesn't work with ASE? I have tried converting both the program and the level, and just the program (but that screws up the screens involving vars:(

Unfortunately, Mario cannot be emulated because it uses external levels. 82 emulation on other calculators hasn't gotten that sophisticated yet, and even when external variable emulation is possible, Mario still wouldn't run because it has to do some relocation/de-relocation tricks in order to resize/create variables.

Ben Mickle's and Bill Nagel's 86 renditions are both great. My version isn't drastically different from either. I would like to clarify the article in saying that although the graphics and many concepts mimic Nagel's version, no program code was shared in the making of this game. That's probably a bad thing for people wishing to convert 86 levels to the 82. The level formats and compression aren't even remotely similar.

Have you tried yas?

YAS .94 supports large 82 crash/ash files and it does external levels.

I know this is off topic, but where can I find information on keypresses and keycodes in assembly for the Ti-83+?

I've been looking forward to this game for a long time and just wanted to say that you've done a great job creating this masterpiece. I know I'm asking a lot when I ask for a port to be made to the 83 in the very first post... Anyways, keep up the great work!

A port to the 83 is planned, but it will have to wait until next week because I have finals this week and the beginning of next week :(

I thought you said no port requests... though I'm not complaining... I only have an 83+ ...I hope a port to the 83 means one to the 83+ too, right?

ACtually, if you use the MirageOS shell, you can play it on the 83+. Rename the file extension .8xp instead of .82p and then send it to the calc with MirageOS on. I was so close, then my batteries died. :(

That wasn't your battery dyeing, friend. Your calc crashed. That's why it turned off like that. just wanted to clear that up, so noone has to worry about a crash. someone said they had to re-install the ti-os; you shouldn't have had to do that, after a crash when the calc turns off and will only turn on breifly, just pres and hold th eon button and hit many other buttons. mirageOS seems to handle this well and wipes the ram...i'm not sre that the actual trigger is, but it usually works. try it. just thought i'd put in my 2 cents.

yah, that happened to me. I have changed the the file name to 82 and send the game. Then I went to Mirage and tried to played it. But it crashed. I was really surprised, but I pressed the on button. Then a screen came up and went back dead. But I kept on pushing the On button and pressed the quit button alot. Then it said "error, press any key to turn it off. Then press the on button" I did it and it was like if nothing happened. One thing it erases every thing that was used on Memory.

wow, amazing work. unfortunately, i've only been able to play this on an emulator, cause i don't have an 82, but it's amazing. i'm glad to hear that an 83 version is planned, because that prolly also means 83+ version is on the way...i don't think a few weeks is too long to wait. good luck on your finals, sam (i just had mine, aced em' ^.^) and congratulations on another excellent program. (great timing, too, the people at school have wanted this for a long time, and i'm the ONLY person with a graph link, and today is our last day! make the buggers wait till next year..he he heh.)

Hey, I thought if you didn't have a TI-82, you couldn't have an 82 emulator. You need to put a rom image on, right?

No, I tried it and the TI82 emulation will not work because it needs external level files. It crashes an 83+ w/ Mirage (I had to reinstall the TI-OS)

It doesn't crash my calc, the program runs it says no levels found when it comes to the second screen in the program.
