vti is pretty smooth but i bet you guys didn't know a string of the 'CIH' virus is contained in the setup file. also, the ti 83 asm tutorial that was availabe a few days at ticalc.org ago also contained a string of the virus.

i guess in the uninstaller also. my mcaffe v.s. picked up this string of 'CIH' also.

Actually we did pick up on that a long time ago and it was because of the serve not us. We recreated a clean version and replaced the infected file a while ago.

cih is actually pretty deadly. it is a trojan virus in which it attacks at a specific date. cih will activate on march 26. this trojan burns up your c drive and will not allow windows to start. recommendations: update your virus scan DAT files. good luck man.

Be sure to archive/backup any important data on your calc (on an 89) before you run the rom wizzard.

The dumprom() routine crashed my 89.(maybe I'm just dumb)

After tranfering AMS 2.03 to my computer My calculator(HW1) was missing the horizontal lines arround the input line. I accidentally ran dumprom() again and it froze.

A quick jerk of a battery reset it. (as opposed to removing the backup bat and pushing buttons)

The skins look lifelike!

although
I can't figure out how to see the Percent of Actual Speed.

Is this version a bit faster as well?

Re: Re: Virtual TI v2.5 Beta 5

this version(as beta 4) has 2 diferents speeds , the real calc speed and the maximum speed that your PC can handle . If your PC is less than a pentium (486 ,5x86 )
then the emulator will be very slow , even in max speed
The good thing of this emulator is that the control is not affected with the max speed . HP49G emulator at max speed , is totally out of control , you press a key and it is like if you've pressed that key 10000 times . So , in HP49G emulator you have to strict to the real calc speed . And it's a slow calc man.....(except in 3d function , it's 2 times faster than the TI89...! that proves the bad administration of the AMS for 3D graph in TI89 , but we must remember that HP has been working in NEC saturn since 1986(?).TI has only 5 years of experience with motorola 68000 , so , I think it's good anyway)

The TI-89 emulator (version 2.5b4) had an option to show the percentage of actual speed.

This would be 86%-125% or so when the calculator was off... and 16%-50% or so when it was doing a complex computation.

This number would show up in the window bar... I don't see a window bar in 2.5b5

The emulator seems to be going a bit faster than b4 but I wanted to check the numbers.

I don't know what an HP49g has to do with this, and TI didn't make this emulator (HP at least distributed their 49 emulator)

(I use win98se IE5 on P200 128 megram 16bit color 1024x768)

I don't think that speed was improved -it would be noticed-
Yes ! I remember that speed counter , but I have a Pentium 2 celeron 433Mhz .... Vti always stayed between 200% and 300 % of speed , with 64M of RAM (63 , my videocard uses 1 Mb but its like a 16 Mb videocard , I don't think has something to do with emu speed -since no emu uses 3D filtering or
foging..... mmmmm- )
The HP49G emulator was made by HP and some other guys out there . (Anyway , I don't like it).

yes , the emulation of a MC68000 is slower than the Z80
well , that's my conclution after using the MAME 32...
the emulation of arcade games that uses Z80 are faster than those that uses a 68k -but maybe it's not the reason- . The TI89 emulation is slower , yes .

That's right. on my mon's computer
(Pentium 166 MMX/32MB RAM/Windown 95 OSR 2)

TI-86 = 370's & 380's (When Idle)
TI-89 = About 75% (When Idle)

On my computer,
Pentium 90, 32 MB RAM, Windows 98

TI-86 = About 125% to 175%
TI-89 = Not brave enough to try.

it also emulates the 83+ at 2500 times the actual speed, the 85 at 2000 times, and the 86 at 1900 times...fun fun fun...im still not sure why someone would want to run something 2000 times as fast as it really is, it gets a tad unplayable....

Heh. My Cyrix MII-366 64MB runs the 83 only at around 120% and that /does/ drop down when you execute more complex operations. My AMD K6-2 366 128MB runs the 83 at around 130% and also does drop with more complex ops.
I think they're reasonably powerful chips to be able to emulate a mere Z80 :) Perhaps a bit of a speed increase could be made, Rusty...

If it runs at least at full speed, how can you complain??? If you've bothered to look at the source, you would see that he used a prewritten Z80 core (the one from MAME I believe). If it works, why spend time on making it better?

As a side note, he did write the CPU core for VGBC entirely in x86 asm.

I think algorithm was talking about the fact that it is really just Celeron, not Pentium 2 Celeron. They are two different chips.

Pentium 2 celeron is the same as pure Pentium 2 but celeron has only 128k of caché ram , while the P2 has
512kb .
If I go to "system information" it says
"GeniuneIntel pentium(R)2 Processor Intel MMX technology "
But I know that is a celeron . In the PC stores they sell the processor and in the Intel package it says "Pentium 2 433Mhz , celeron "
So ?

OK !!! I tested VTI , to see the speed percentage , you have to disable the skin , and enable the counter.Disabling the skin would make the emu to apear in a window -use x2 view to see the percentage-
that's all ! but you will need to use the keyboard
-so , it would be nice to read the readme file- anyway , what you can do is to switch to "no skin" when you want to see the speed percentage and return to "skin mode" when you want . It's the only way , I think ..

Yes, the only way to get the speed indicator to work right now is to either select no skin or select an old-style skin. If you really want the speed indicator and a skin at the same time, find a copy of beta 4, put the old skin files in the VTI directory (possibly renaming them so they don't overwrite the new ones), and select the old skin instead of the new (from the "skin for current calculator" option in the right click menu). You may end up with two skins named "Default TI-xx". If you don't like this, use the skin editor (skin.exe) to change the name of one of them.

Why doesn't the emulator recognize the AMS v2.03 ROM version? I mean it runs correctly, but when you check to see which ROM versions are installed ("Set calculator/ROM version...") or look in the About screen, it recognizes my AMS v2.03 as ROM 1.00. NO biggie, it works correctly, it seems like you forgot to update some things.....???
