DoorsOS II v0.93 Released!
Posted by Eric on 10 February 2000, 07:36 GMT

Xavier Vassor and the Doors Team have released DoorsOS II v0.93 for the TI-89 and TI-92+. This new version breaks the infamous 8KB limit for programs on AMS 2.03. As usual, DoorsOS can be found in our archives. Once again, congratulations to the Doors Team!

do those grayscale libraries for hw2 devices interfer with tetris? I am wondering whether or not to take them off a friend's calc. Also, has anybody gotten tetris to run on hw2 with doors?

*off topic*
yuck, someone's trying to standardize LIBRARIES on my 86...<shudder>...we got all that space, we don't really need libraries, and besides, I don't want to have to carry around a certain library or scour for the right version whenever I have to use it for a game.

Yea... libraries are annoying. But if you were programming those games, you would be thankful for the libraries.

I have to use libraries on my 89 for most of the games to work... but I don't care, I just send them all when I send any games, regardless of whether I need them or not.

Yuck to libs
HydroCarbon10  Account Info

Yes, I'll have to agree with the yuck to libs on the 86. Not only are they not needed, they would also be annoying. When I program asm, all the routines that would be shared by a library only take up a few hundred bytes, and I like to tailor my routines to the task at hand. If I need sprites that will not blank out 0 bits, but I won't be drawing on a background I just write my own putsprite routine using OR instead of bloating my program with jimmy mardell's ascr routines. Also, if you want easy to use, ready made routines, just use include files. Your program might be a few hundred bytes larger, but I won't have to mess with seperate libraries. Libraries are a pain and I wouldn't care if I had them or not programming.

Hey Joe, I use a HW2 AMS 1.05 TI-89 and version 0.92 of DoorsOS II, and many games work fine (except that all of them do not have grayscale capabilities). Heh, it took me a while to notice that my games were missing grayscale after I took a glimpse at some screenshots.

I run the grayscale version of Tetris (Tetris89 2.0x v0.71) and it works fine except that there is simply no grayscale involved.

Just about all 4 level grayscale games work on on HW2 1.05... the only problem is the grayscale is a little flickery, but its there... just use universal os... everything for doors seems to run on it... it will suffice till the doors team gets hw2 figured out..
no crashes either..tho tetris has problems turning off pixels

I tried using uos, but my friend's calc displayed "out of memory" whenever I tried to run a program (hw2)

If you're out of memory, you should try taking some programs out of the memory by archiving them. Always keep a lot of RAM free so that you won't get any memory crashes or errors.

the thing is his calc had about ~170000 bytes of ram left :P

Tetris for HW2

Ahck! I installed Tetris89 ([2.0x] v0.71) and DoorsOSII v0.92 on my 92+ (AMS 1.05 and HW2) and guess what? It *still* froze! Has anybody been able to get ANY Tetris working on the HW2 92+? I'm desperate... it's uh, an emergency!

I have gotten this new doors os to work on my HW 2 TI-89. I just got the calc this weekend and it came with AMS 1.05. So to all you AMS 2.0x HW 2 users, DOWNGRADE TO AMS 1.05. All the games work on it for me.

How do you play music on an am radio with the 89. I've seen the program, so I got a sound file and sndlib. What station/frequency does the radio need to be on. And do I need any other libraries?

I've never done this before... but my guess would be on the lowest station your radio goes (probably one where you hear nothing but a slight buzz). I once had a bug that transmitted what people said to that station, it's probably what the 89's doing.

Undoing upgrade
HydroCarbon10  Account Info

Wouldn't it be possible to reset the flash roms by doing a new upgrade and pulling the link cord halfway through, then following TI's instructions on how to reset the calc after a botched upgrade? I don't have an 89, but after thinking about the problem I came up with this solution.

you do that and you HAVE to get the calculator that was reciving to a computer with a graphlink. Basically, you have 1/2 of a rom already on the calc, and the rest of the old one. not pretty! this is not something you EVER want to do, for ANY reason. this is very bad, sort of like having half of a processor in a computer. it woln't work.

Question HW 1 or 2
QWERTY187  Account Info

I have two TI-89s. One with HW 1 and one with HW 2. I want to sell one but do not know which one to sell. I notice almost no difference between the two and was wondering if there is any. Any help will be appreciated. I realize perhaps some form of this question has been asked but i have not really found the answer to this specific question.

The HV 1.00 is better for games, but has a smaller memory(there is 300k of unaccesible memory that you can put flash apps in), and the hv 2.00 is better for math (it has been optimized as far as displaying goes), and has the full 700k of memory.

Games or Math?

I don't mean to start flaming all the guys at Doors or any of the other ASM programming groups, but what the hell? I've been without games on my TI-89 since bloody December. Yeah, it's a pain-in-the-butt HW2. I watch my buddies at school playing their Tetris and Block Dude, etc. on their 83's and think back to the good ol' days when I could play the pure sweetness of Street Fighter II and even draw a crowd sometimes. Back then, I worshipped the guys over at Doors for their kernel and the simple fact that they put a lot of time into a product that didn't cost a dime to use.

Nowadays I have to sit and watch others because no one seems to bother porting a HW2 2.03AMS copy of any ASM. Ok, ok, I understand that you have lives, that you have school/work. Believe me, I'd do it myself if I could. So how about it? Develop the next version of DoorsOs II for the HW 2 2.03 AMS first and give us all a break already! If you guys would give us some support, (even a basic kernal that will run just Tetris!) you would be getting less criticism from the vetrens and folks new to the TI-89. As a side note, im just guessing here of course, but due to the whole TI-doesnt-ship-HW 1-anymore deal, pretty soon you're going to have more HW 2 users and they are going to want some decent support. I don't think is too great a request for the guys who are making shells. Give us a Break already!

Oh, and by the way, I don't think Einstein's Theory of Relativity has anything to do with the DoorsOS II 0.93 release. Well, unless you count the Babelfish factor...

I'm not sure, but I think that HW2 AMS 2.03 calcs have problems with workarounds to the 8k limit. Right now I don't really care for 2 reasons: 1) My graphlink is working only every day or two; I haven't got around to returning it and 2) I have an 86, which is good for all my gaming (as well as testing) needs.

I think you missed the whole point of my post. I was "hinting" at actually trying to solve the problem instead of ignoring it and releasing the next version for old HW version. Also, supposedly, the 8K limit was broken by the last version (v0.93). Since you don't really care, why are you even replying?

I have to say that I wholly agree with Monk here. Although the Doors Team is undoubtedly the best at the TI-89/92+, it is quite annoying that they've been ignoring HW2 all this time. I bought my 92+ back in late November last year with the hope of at least having a few decent games, and I've been patient till this day.

Unfortunately, it seems nobody is working on porting anything to the HW2. Why not? Well, my theory is that when the 89/92 first came out... it was the programmers who bought them. Now we non-programmers are stuck with the new versions (HW2).
