Ion86
Posted by Nick on 2 February 2000, 03:13 GMT

Icarus Productions has given me a great present for my birthday--albeit unwittingly :). For all you TI-86 fans out there (such as myself), you'll be pleased to know that Clem Vasseur has released Ion86, a great new program that emulates TI-83 Ion programs on your 86. Matthew Shepcar helped out by writing the .COM file included that converts the Ion programs to a compatible .86s format, and also by providing the TI-83 emulation core from Rascall. Thanks a ton to Clem and Matt for providing a great new program for all the 86-philes.

Is it just me or does icarus.ticalc.org crash anyone else's brower? I've used Netscape
4.05 at home and at school, and I.E.. It "performs a illegal operation".

Also After looking at all your comments, you seemed to be misinformed. The TI-83+, and the 86 have THE SAME amount of memory, just the 86 has no archive space. The 86 outperforms the 83/+ a lot. Due to the Resolution, built in ASM support, and the massive amount of games for the 86/emulated calcs. You newbies should know more about this stuff before you decide to comment on it ;-P

Anyways Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this...

The 83+ has 24k user available RAM and 160k User Available FLASH ROM.
The 86 has 96k user available RAM and no FLASH ROM.

As far as your browser is concerned, try upgrading to the latest netscape version (4.7) or use IE.

I do Know, I was just misinformed, and as I said "Tell me if any of this is wrong" (or whatever I said). See, my whole point was that people should not act like they know it all, if their new to it...

icarus.ticalc.org makes Netscape 4.6 perform an illegal operation for me too. I wonder what causes it?

TI-86 - A great calculator
jamin  Account Info

This program just emphasizes the advantages of the TI-86. Having access to programs from three other calculators plus its own is awesome! Too bad my brother lost my 86. I guess I'll have to be happy with my hw2, Rom 1.5 TI-89 :( If they only made an 86+ with more memory, a better screen, and flash rom...

Interestingly it seems that my 86 is better than my other calculator (a 92+). The 86 can now run programs from other calculators. The 92+ (hw2 rom2.03) can't even play most 92+ games. Maybe someone should release a 92+ emulating shell for the 92+ ;-}

Too bad the 86 can't do half the stuff the stuff the 92+ can (mathematically) =(. The 86, in no way, is better than a 92+ or 89...

Sorry, no offense or anything.. but the ti89 is a lot better and have about 700 KB of memory more than the ti86 after the hardware 2.03 upgrade. that is why it cost like 50 dollars more than the ti86

but it is cool that the ti86 now can run ti83 games =)

btw, anyone plan to release Hardware 2.03 games for the ti89? there aren't a lot...hihihi

no offense, but you don't seem to get the point. An 86 is better if your into octal (89's don't have it). Also 89's crash more :)

Oh... just like the 89 is better for 3D graphing, graphical and customizable menus, BASIC that is actually useful and not infinitely slow, pretty print, 700k of space, the sharpest screen of any calculator, applications and Flash ROM, well... you get the point.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Ion86

Oh...like you don't understand that it cost almost 50% more than an 86 too!!! The 86 is probably the best calculator for it's price with all that it can do! Also BASIC will always be worse than ASM, so get used to it! And if your that picky why not just get a laptop! It has a much larger memory, hard drive, can run many more applications, way better games, you can hook it up to an outlet instead of draining the battery, you can run Macromedia Flash 4 animation on it, and the resolutions a lot better so you can get way better graphics!!! And guess what else, it's still a calulator (just a lot more powerful one).......You get point!!! : ^ )

I don't want to start a fight here... but ah, hell, I've got nothing better to do.

Ok. You start off saying that the 89 costs 50% more than the 86. TI wouldn't make it cost that much if it didn't do that much more. Like I said... the 89 has a lot of things the 86 doesn't, and it's worth the money if you can afford it.

Then you suggest that if I'm so picky, I should get a laptop. Those can be almost $2000! That's what... 1000% more than an 86? And let's see you bring your laptop to school and start playing with it in math class. Or use it on an exam.

No offense to you really, or the other guy I replied to. I love my 89... and I like to defend it.

Nah... that's the 92. My math teachers are so calc-ignorant they can't tell if it's my 83 or 89. And they fall for the fake mem clear screen program for the 83 every time. Not that I cheat or anything... :)

If someone made a CAS program for the 86 and ASMized Func3D, we'd have one hell of a calculator. Ah well...in the meantime, we'll just stick to playing every other calculator's games. Mwahahaha!

I think he (Kirk) discontinued it altogether. Even so, it doesn't have the advanced symbolic manipulation capabilities of a CAS. Oh well, I could just get an 89...

LOL. Good idea!

The only problems are that the emulator would slow the calc down to 1/10 it's normal speed, and the screen would have to be 1/4 the normal size. ;)
