Posted by Nick on 11 December 1999, 19:54 GMT

Super Mario 86 v0.95Ben Mickle has released an update to Super Mario 86 recently with his Super Mario 86 v0.95. A level editor is also available. New features include a host of bug fixes, a level editor *g*, Bowser, more graphics and animation, improved jumping, and of course the support of external worlds. Congratulations to Ben on all the great improvements he's made to an already wonderful game!

I'm going to try to transpose some of the levels from the nes game.
How do you add 10 coin blocks? I've noticed that some of the levels included are missing some.

Great game, Ben!!
also Randy Gluvna is not the author to the Level editor, Ben Mickle is. This should be corrected.

I think I know what the problem is! Randy already made a program called medit86, that is a memory editor. When ticalc added mario edit, it replaced his memory editor!

Could somebody please port this to the 83+? I would really like to see Super Mario added to Ion. There is no game like Mario for the 83+. :(

Do you have any idea how annoying it is when people like you ask for ports of every other game release?

I agree that it is annoying when people ask for ports too often, but they have to because not many people create programs for the 'not-so-popular' calculators. Also, I think that when most people ask for a port, they just want a game simmilar to it. Someone needs to make a "Dummy's Guide to TI Calc Assembly Programming" so that all the people out there that want games can make them. I know that there are millions of docs out there for every calc, but usually they are in lessions and were never completed, or are cryptic. Someone (that has plenty of spare time/no life) needs to find all these docs and make a complete guide to not only assembly programing, but how to use it to create different types of programs. Maybe include examples from FULL assembly programs, instead of just a program that moves a block around or draws bars in grayscale... If I have time, I'll email the authors of the docs and ask for permision to use them to make a doc like that for every calculator(I only own an 82 and 92+, but I can try to make one for other calcs)...

"Not-so-popular"? The TI-83 is TI's most popular calculator, no questions asked. It has been adopted by hundreds of schools across the country as an updgrade to the TI-82, and it will not soon be replaced by another calculator. Just because the TI-83+ is new doesn't mean that it is popular yet.

ASM documentation exists. If you'd looked for it, you would have found it. Straight from the TI-Files Documents & Utilities archive:

http://www.ti-files.org/archives /doc&util/asmguru.zip

If this isn't a clear and concise ASM programming guide, than I don't know what is!

When you graduate from the first help files, you can move on to this one:

http://www.ti-files.org/archives /doc&util/asmhelp.zip

I know the 83 is popular, but the 83+ is new, and not many people have published programs for it.
As I said, I know there are assembly documents out there, but every one I have read is missing something. Either it only teaches the simple stuff like putting a pixel, assumes the reader is very smart or very stupid (The general public is neither in my opinion), or teaches everything but how to apply the skills taught. Game programming isnt just a matter of putting pixels on the screen and processing keys pressed. Conceptual design is very important in game programming; well it makes it a LOT easier anyways. Game programming is an art, not a process...

Stop making assumptions! I linked to the BEST ASM tutorial that currently exists. If you actually downloaded the documents I linked to, you may actually LEARN ASM, as opposed to giving excuses why you aren't programming!

I can program in asm. I don't need help; I am simply making suggestions for ways to help others (I don't like it when programmers complain about people asking for programs, but aren't willing to do anything about it). I apologize for not even looking at the tutorial before replying. Its is by far the best tutorial I have seen for any calculator. The only 2 things I believe could it better would be (1) Make an RTF or PLAIN TEXT version(I personally like scrolling more than clicking >> and << a ton), and (2) Add the source to a 'real' game and explain it fully. This is the type of tutorial I was talking about, and a simmilar type of tutorial needs to be made for other calculators (mainly the 83+, 86, 89, and 92+)...

Silence, fool. The 83+ sucks. By being stupid enough to buy it, you deserve a total lack of games. Just my opinion.

BTW, way to go Ben!!!

if i might add something...

the 83+ does NOT suck. just because you can't understand that some people have no need for the extended capabilities of the 89 and do not feel the extra money for an 86 is justified doesn't mean you can pound poor souls <ie 83+ users> into the bloody ground.

thank you.

first off, we got the 83 + cause it is about the EXACT same as the 83, just it has some new functions, and more memory. you arent complaining about the 83, so just shut you big $^@#^@ing mouth

Well good for you. Now that you've purchased something that is what... about 10 bucks less than ti-86 (if you'd gotten the 86 off of eBay it would be about $70, less than a new 83+) you've found out that it is NOT exactly the same as the 83 since it can't play squat. the 83+ is much like ams v2.03 for the TI-89. It is supposedly the exact same thing as ams v1.00/v1.05 and has more space as well!!! just like the 83+

Unfortunately, v2.03 couldn't play ANY of our really cool games, like sf2, and stuff like that. At least now we are getting a couple, just like the 83+ Live it bub

In my opinion, the old 83 sucks too. But at least there are programs for it.

Also, "about the EXACT" is complete contradiction of terms. Just thought I'd point that out.

hey listen you...the 83+ is a great calculator. Of course, I use it for statistics and the 89 for anything else math related :) I don't even bother putting games on the 83+ b/c the 89 is just so much better. Phoenix and Tetris all the way!

just don't go around dissing my stats calc
