July/August 2005 Newsletter
Posted by Michael on 1 September 2005, 05:35 GMT

The July/August 2005 ticalc.org newsletter was published today, SEVERAL HOURS LATE, by our formerly-esteemed newsletter editor Jonathan. Yes, he specifically said not to razz him about his tardiness. Feel free to liberally do so.

If you are not yet subscribed to the newsletter and can no longer stand missing out on prodigal merriment, fanfare, verbiage, and all things ticalc.org, you can find instructions at the mailing lists page.

In my defense:

1. I sent out the newsletter at 11PM EDT on August 31st, 2005. Therefore, in my time zone and all the times zones west of me (Excluding everything past the international date line), the newsletter was mailed out on time.

2. The newsletter is about the months of July and August, so if it appears to be received on September 1st, it's just a great way to celebrate the past few months as we head into the next set.

3. ...Oh wow, it IS September. Wow, that actually really surprised me.

I, for one, really don't care if the newsletter is late or not. I like what's init, and it's worth a couple hours wait after two months.

Yeah, it came on time to me by about half an hour. That's fine, I don't care anyways. :-D

It wouldn't have made any difference for me anyway, as I'm sure that I didn't actually check my mail and read the newsletter until several hours after it was received, anyway. :-)

App signing

Benjamin Moody, in his interview: "I have a few other programs I'm working on intermittently; there's a cross-platform app signing program that's nearing completion"

Did you (Z80 developers) know that TI's app signer was already available for Linux? http://education.ti.com/ downloads/zip/us/ appsign-linux-i386-bin.zip (remove spaces)

Well, the problem should be obvious from the name! "linux-i386-bin". That's not what I call cross-platform.

Ummm... I do think he's making two separate references. One to a cross-platform app signing program, and the other to a Linux z80 app signing program.

That's really cool - TI's first Linux program!

That's really cool! I do believe that this Linux-based z80 app signer is TI's first Linux program in the calculator department. Now we lobby for them to GPL it. :)

Now all we have to do (if nobody has done it yet) is reverse-engineer that program and write a truly cross-platform and GPL'd (of course) version.

Yeah yeah, I know the README says "You may not reverse-engineer, disassemble, reassemble, or decompile the program", but that doesn't make it illegal or wrong to do it anyway.
