Kirby's Quest v1.05
Posted by Michael on 4 March 2005, 05:08 GMT

[Kirby's Quest] Kirby's Quest is an 89 game similar to Kirby's Dreamland 1 and 2. This side-scrolling game features five types of enemies and a PC level editor. In the most basic sense, it is like Mario. The most important aspect of the game is that the author lists 130 KB of free RAM required in order to prevent crashes because "some levels are large."

Update: Version 1.06 has now been released. This includes a bug fix and 92+/V200 versions.

Update: Now version 1.08 is out.

I just submitted a level. Nothing to be excited about though.

That would be with version 1.05. I don't know if it has been fixed.

Platform: TI-89 Titanium
Version of Kirby: 1.05

I archived every Kirby file I sent to my calculator. I had 170kb free RAM on my calculator. I ran kirby() from folder "main" where all the game files are. The mains creen opened, and I selected New Game. A nice Address Error screen popped up. After 5 or 6 2nd-On-Left-Right attempts, the calculator reseted. After I ran kirby() again, it worked fine.

I remember having this game on my calculator a few months ago, and it used to crash a lot while playing the game. My calculator became VERY unstable after.

Major kudos to Krzysztof Rodak on the release. I'm seriously thinking of getting a TI-89 just for the games now. ;)

Not sure if I'm right, but:
Ker zhis toff. The zh is pronounced like the s in leisure, or the g in "di giorno" (the pizza brand).

Hehe I use my 86 100% for school work. In summer 2004 I bought a TI-89T - for gaming and programming. As far as programming goes, I initially bought it for C programming with TIGCC, but now I'm addicted to TI_BASIC 89 - such a powerful language, it even has Xor methods for sprites! (unlike TI-BASIC 86)

I almost believed you until you said "TI_BASIC 89 - such a powerful language".

Compared to 83+-Basic, 89-basic *is*... er... powerful :)

No sir BASIC 89 is a very acomplished programming language. It's all about using it for the proper things - games with lots of graphic movement and animations are a no. The rest should work fine and at lag-less speed.

Every time i run kirby() on the home screen, it opens the main menu. Whenever I hit new game, it just closes for a second, then takes me back to the main screen. I have about 170k of free RAM so thats not the problem. What should I do?

Press 2nd + left + right + on.
This will reset your ram. Then try again.

I tried this, and it sort of worked. It got me into the program, but the keys were wierd. Like the plus key was move right and the 9 was move left or something like that. It was really strange. I tried hitting 2nd left right on and it wouldn't escape the program. I couldn't get out of it that way so I had to remove the batteries. Any other ideas about how to get it to work?

I figured out my own problem. I kept hitting enter to select stuff in the main menu. All I had to do was hit 2nd instead of enter.
