Grav Released for 68k Calcs
Posted by Michael on 20 January 2005, 03:29 GMT

[Grav]There's a new game out for the 68k calculators (89/92+/V200), but Francophobes will have to sit this one out. Grav is a great game of guiding a ball through obstacle courses while gravity adjusts, or something to that extent. It's completely written in French. This screenshot demonstrates Grav on a harder difficulty setting - all of those little "X" sprites on the screen are moving.

Haha, I just saw this game down in the recent files list, refreshed the page, and got a news article about it.

It looks pretty cool and thought it should get featured...In fact, I was about to email ticalc and tell them. I can't play it though; I don't have an 89 :(.

I saw this up while ago...is this an update, or has it just not been listed as a new file?

With my limited first-year French, I actually understood most of the text, although you don't need to understand it to play the game.

Hey! Are you implying that there's something wrong with the TI-82? ;)

This game looks pretty cool. It's somewhat simplistic, but the simplest games are usually the most addicting (for whatever reason). I can see myself playing this during many boring periods in school. Nice idea.

No, I'm not implying that there's anything wrong with the 82. They still work, and therefore there's nothing wrong with them. I'm just saying they're incredibly outdated :)

It's flagged as an update, but, if it is, it's a very old program because I haven't seen it on ticalc.

Here's what I get out of the readme(even though it doesn't help...):

Grav is a game with a simple principle, but it reveals itself to be rather difficult. Effectively?, the goal is to direct a ball through a world. Difficulty comes from gravity and different traps (???, ???, ???, inverse gravity...)

Actually, this kind of looks like a game I had on an old camera phone running a Symbian OS. The phone was a Nokia. Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah, I saw someone playing a similar game on a cellphone once. It was a little different though, instead of flying you could only bounce/jump. Also, I don't think that the screen scrolled until you hit the edge.

Somewhat offtopic, but:

I am doing a research paper for school on the history of graphing calculators. Does anyone have any good resources, other than here or datamath.org? I especially need stuff on HP, Casio and Sharp (being Fair and Balanced here). I am already emailing the companies, so don't go out of your way to do that.

I also would like to release the paper on ticalc.org, so if any staff read this...

As long as you mention that 82's are ancient and 89's are awesome, it's all good. Our trig teacher won't get new calculators for the class...if you borrow one of his you get an 82. I'm so glad I got my 89 about that time...

Why would you need anything more than an 82 for trig?

You could d/l my TI Powerpoint file, but that only covers TI calculators since 1967... Of course, make sure to have lots of info on the processors themselves :-)

I downloaded that presentation, and it's pretty good, but it has some serious errors...it says that the 83+ was released before the 83, and also lists the clock speed of the 86 as 6 Khz.

You kept referring to the "Voyager 200". TI's fourth-newest calculator was not lost in the Delta Quadrant for seven years. It's the "Voyage 200".
