Well, I guess my nerd level just dropped 15% then, because I was on vacation on the 26th and couldn't visit ticalc.org. [Well, technically, I could have, but I'd rather not have to use Internet Explorer. ;-) ] Not that I really care about my "nerd level" (whatever that really is) *that* much, though.

On the other hand, I stayed up late the other night messing with my new trackball and my X11 configuration (on Linux) until I finally managed to get the scroll buttons to work right, so maybe I haven't lost much. :)

I also picked up a really old computer that my aunt didn't want anymore. I'm thinking about using some of the hardware components for something. Maybe I could take the display card out (assuming it's a PCI card) and put it in my computer and set up multiple monitors. That should take care of the problem with not having enough screen space. :)

If you look at the box, you see that they claim more than just the name - the distinctive board design, the four corner squares, and something else I think. But perhaps with a different name, it won't be as easily found by search engines. There seem to be people who sit around and search for infringements.

But without the obvious trademark infringement, they don't have quite such an easy case, so they usually let it go. Atlantik is going ahead just fine even though it is an obvious Monopoly clone and included in KDE. Tetris is owned by the same people (Hasbro, they purchased the rights to Tetris), it's the same thing: they claim an interface copyright, but AFAIK their enforcement is concentrated on those games that call themselves "Tetris". That's why KTetris has been called KSirtet for some time now. :-)

Be warned though that "Monoply" qualifies very much for a "confusingly similar" name under trademark law. It's not different enough IMHO. But then again IANAL.
