Nebulus for the 89
Posted by Michael on 20 June 2004, 18:09 GMT

[Nebulus]The classic ATARI/Amiga/C64/DOS game of Nebulus has been created for the 89/92+/V200. This scroller features the story of Pogo, a demolition worker who must destroy ocean-harming towers. Sound (through the link port) is an optional nice touch. As shown in the screenshot to the right, the graphics seem well implemented.

Update (Morgan): Ti-Gen has posted an article with some of the history of the game if you are unfamiliar with it.

all i can say about this game is that the graphics look amazing. i think i'll have to break out the ol' 89 to give it a try.

so i just played it, and the graphics are really good. but the controls seem a little awkward, with the same button used for jumping and for shooting. i think that also there might be too much graphics for the calculator to handle very well, and it can be difficult to distinguish different things in the game.

All I get is a bunch of random dots across the middle of the home screen when I run it.

Sounds like a memory problem. His program is probably trying to allocate memory you don't have.

Geogeo forgot to fix PolySnd for the Titanium. This will be fixed in the next version.

On mine, a HW2 AMS 2.09 89, there are two columns, about 15 pixels wide, on each side, where the colors are inverted. Is this normal?

I am also the creator of PolySnd. I have just to correct a bug with the ghost space in interrupts routine so that Nebulus is completely compatible with the TI89T.

The game work correctly of TI89/TI92+ and V200.

He's referring to the very bug you reported. He asked me what could be the cause and we traced it down to be probably caused by PolySnd trying to use the ghost space. So I expect it to work when he fixes that issue.

By the way, the "random dots at the middle of the home screen" are normal (ttstart does that to bypass the execution protection). What is definitely not normal is that the game crashes at that point. :-)

How the heck do the dots do that?

I do not have a ti 89/92+/v200 but I want to know how does drawing dots on the screen stop an access violation of the memory?

The RAM area which is never protected against execution by AMS and the RAM area used for the LCD nicely intersect. :-)

Yes, Nebulus also supports those models, and it actually looks better on them than on the TI-89 because of screen size constraints.

Not yet, as you can see in comments above, but this will be fixed very soon.

Isn't this a board ??

If you want a board to talk about Nebulus and various other software, I suggest http://pub26.ezboard.com/ btichessteamhq (the official TIGCC/TICT board), especially the Custom Beta Tests section at http://pub26.ezboard.com/ ftichessteamhqfrm10
[Remove spaces, they were added because ticalc won't accept words with more than 40 characters]

I just want to say, there is nothing more annoying than the noobs coming in and wanting changes made to the site. I know I was once in that camp, but recently I have realized how useless it is. The site is as it is. There were no open forums before you signed up, there still aren't any, nor will there ever be open forums on ticalc.

Another point that you will have to come to realize is that there will be no changes to this based on user input, unless they have asked for it first. Then, and only then, will the staff listen to anything we have to say. So, save it.

lol, $20 to completely design and run a new system and change the entire ticalc.org site construction?...so that would be about... $0.50 an hour...and annoy everybody.

It didn't seem to me as if he was complaining; he was just asking why it was so.

At first, I thought that it was quite strange. I think that I have finally accepted it now. :)

Yeah, I used to want the open forum, but now I don't really care. I mean, it's their site, they can put whatever they want on it. So, if they say no, I have to accept that. And so I did.
