Project Qonos: PDA/Calculator Hybrid
Posted by Michael on 14 June 2004, 17:01 GMT
There is an interesting project under development called Project Qonos (that's the name of the Klingon homeworld). Qonos is a Linux PDA that will focus on a number of scientific applications, including graphing calculators. It will emulate the TI-89 and HP 48/49G. Hydrix has a survey where your opinions can shape the development of this device. You can read more detailed information at hpcalc.org.

It's not Qonos, it's Qo'noS. I'm not picky about the caps on the S, but without the apostrophe it's supposed to sound totally different (it's its own sound).

I have always depised this argument. Mostly because the ignorance teenagers have when deciding a calculator. I've found it common to see my peers with TI's (specifcally the 89) playing games. A point to make here, the name of the product is the Texas Instruments TI-89 *Calculator*. You do not play games on a *Calculator*; you're simply abusing and degrading the concept. Another point, you don't make negative comments toward a calculator that doesn't play the games you wish or have the quality of games you wish - it's irrelevant. As for RPN, most people that don't like RPN, don't know how to use it. I'm been a witness to his myself. RPN isn't working backwards, it's working the problem how you would work it. Does your brain work backwards? (seems so).

Quick clearing up:
Qonos is NOT the name of the Klingon homeworld.
Qo'noS IS the name of the Klingon homeworld in Klingon.
Chronos is the name of the Klingon homeworld in English.
Qonos is the name of some kind of Native American god, as well as a supposed 10th planet.
I am a Star Trek geek. Don't mock me.
