It's just a guess, but I think I might be the guy with the lowest numbered account who still posts, and is not a staff member.

People just lose interest after awhile. I don't use my TI calculator for anything but a desk calculator (which is more convenient than the computer). For anything non-trivial I usually use MATLAB or Mathematica these days. Even so, I still have the lowest userid #1. Ahh the perks of designing the account system :).

Why use a computer that can calculate 299! in milliseconds when you could use a calculator that can calculate it in seconds? Besides, calculators are (almost) cheap AND portable. Also, thank you for designing the review system, and survey system!

Ok, but how do users know that 314159 exist but not 27156 etc?

open someones account and change the number in the url. If it gives a page, then that is the person, if it gives an error then they dont exist.

Right. Or, there is the possibility that they're hiding their user information page. Could that be a reason for all of the users that "don't exist?"

Oh yeah... I never really thought of that. I thought the user information pages would still be shown, just not listed in the directory (user searches).
