ticalc.org Reaches 50,000 User Accounts
Posted by Michael on 29 May 2004, 20:19 GMT
We have reached yet another site milestone: Fifty thousand user accounts. Steve Taylor is the lucky owner of account #50000. Figuring approximately 100,000 posted comments, we're averaging two comments per user.
We wish to thank you, the visitors, for our success. Hopefully we will reach 100,000 users in the future.

Only two comments per user? wow, I know many people make a lot more than that. That must mean that some of the 50,000 users make a LOT of comments, while the rest of them hardly ever post at all (if ever).

but now there are 50094 users, which is a much slower rate than before. I suspect that when people saw the news article, they were inspired to create an account. If we just post a new article every few users, well get to 100,000 in no time...
Ticalc.org reaches 50,100 accounts...
Ticalc.org reaches 50,124 accounts...
Ticalc.org reaches 50,126 accounts...
I think that would work pretty well, and it might also inspire more posting so the average post count can go up...

Just out of curiosity, how does your news numbering system work? Like the "Help wanted" news article had an ID of 111370 and this article's ID was 111548...it gets really confusing...

Right, it's all rather simple. This guy typed in http// as you said, but ticalc adds http:// to the beginning of any URL that does not already have it at the beginning. So, that's how you explain the http//http://. Now, when you click on an invalid link like that, if you're using IE, then it's very possible that you're just getting some kind of help page, or maybe that one where it tries to make your URL into a search result. So, if it bothers you that it's doing that... then don't use IE ;-) Although, I just tried clicking on the link with my IE6.0 and it didn't do that. But I bet that's what it was anyway.
