More TI-84 Plus News
Posted by Michael on 2 May 2004, 17:16 GMT

We have made several additions to the site for the new 84+ product line. The TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus Silver Edition pages have been added to our Calculators page. There is also now a TI-84 Plus section of the archives. Personally, I would recommend that only programs that require the 84+ to run be placed in the 84+ directories. Most if not all 83+ programs should run just fine.

Lastly, the 84 Plus Silver Edition has been available to the public for the last week. Your local Target store has them for $129.99. Most other places are still waiting for a shipment though. The 84 Plus remains widely available.

Reallly, all TI has sone is taken existing designns, changes the case and added 20 cents worth of flash ROM, and are selling them. If you already have a TI83+SE, why would you want one of these?

They have to do something to prevent people from just re-using old calculators. Otherwise their calculator business would be over.

I suppose so. Its a pity they couldn't invest in a little R&D and come out with something truly new (or at least much better specs).

I would think it takes at least "a little" to add a USB port.

The 84+ SE is meant to replace the 83+ SE, but I don't know about the regular 84+; maybe it's a model in between the 83+ and the 83+ SE/84+ SE.

I don't know why you are so worked up. "Why would anyone want a calculator?" is the argument that you have. Why don't we insult other upgrades, and just go back and use the computers with tubes, or better yet, an abicus. After all, they do the same thing.

I think it would be better to compare upgrading from the 83+SE to the 84+SE to upgrading from an abacus with 8 rods to an abacus with 10 rods.

GASP!! You mean there are actually abacuses with TEN rods??? I am SO behind the times! Mine only has SIX!!!

Excuse the sarcasm.

Actually, I am probably a bit behind the times; I just have a measly TI-83+ :-(

Nope, not even an 83+SE. I'm waiting for the 89Ti.
Besides, my trusty 83+ got me a 740 on the SAT in 8th grade....

But there's no difference! Why would you need the extra 2, you're not using them anyways. Or there would be no 8-rod abacus. I think of 10-rod to 8-rod as an upgrade...

Let me get this straight: I wanted them to increase the specs more (faster CPU at least), and you make out that I am a luddite? riiiiight.

I'm not worked up, I'm just wondering what all the fuss is about. Its not like they doubled the resolution or increased the clockspeed or anything.

It's the first new TI graphing calculators in a couple of years. We need something to talk about.

My Ti-84+
insane_juggalo Account Info

Hey ppl I Just Recently Bought An 84+ And It is Way Better Than The 83+SE It has More Memory More Speed and Even Has A clock That So Far Stays Very Very Accurate. The Only reason I Bought One Is Because My 83+ SE Went Hay Wire And Crashed So Now Its In Itty Bitty Pieces all Over My Room. So If anybody Is Thinking about Getting An 83/83+/83+SE I Reccomend The 84+/84+SE Over Those.
