More TI-84 Plus News
Posted by Michael on 2 May 2004, 17:16 GMT

We have made several additions to the site for the new 84+ product line. The TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus Silver Edition pages have been added to our Calculators page. There is also now a TI-84 Plus section of the archives. Personally, I would recommend that only programs that require the 84+ to run be placed in the 84+ directories. Most if not all 83+ programs should run just fine.

Lastly, the 84 Plus Silver Edition has been available to the public for the last week. Your local Target store has them for $129.99. Most other places are still waiting for a shipment though. The 84 Plus remains widely available.

Is there going to be an update of VTI for the 84? That way I can port all of my games to the 84.

Doubtless. The next most popular version will be v3.5 beta 5 with 84+(se), 89Ti, & Flash support. And maybe (if we're lucky) a Mac OS X port.

At the moment, it looks very much like you won't need to change anything unless
(a) your program does such low-level stuff that you're not compatible with the 83+ SE anyway
(b) or you want to add clock or USB support (which you will probably want to do by means of OS routines, so hopefully you won't need an emulator.)

TI should eventually release a new version of flashsim with 84 support. Third-party emulators can't well be updated until we actually know how all the new stuff works.

I just want to be able to add the clock functions and rename my existing programs. Besides, I'm talking about BASIC!

I think that's what they're trying to avoid--People porting all their BASIC programs to the TI-84+.

Actually, it's not. Someone else is working on it. He's calling it VTI Pro. Check out the web page link.

Doesn't mean people don't still use the emulator.

I didn't say they don't use VTI. Hell I use VTI. I'm saying that that particular project seems to be dead.

_Everybody_ uses VTI. But it's still dead (as a project).

Since a long time. The last time VTI has been updated was... well, a really long time ago. Of course, there's VTI 3.0, but that's actually quite different.
