Antrun for 83/83+
Posted by Michael on 9 February 2004, 22:53 GMT

[]Antrun by Job van der Zwan is a game for the 83/83+ (83 version) where you must guide your ant (conveniently the size of a single pixel) across as many tiles as possible. In order to accomplish this, the tiles must be rotated so that he does not smash into a wall and die. According to the author's readme, you can imagine your pixel to be anything, even a cephalopod. Cuttlefish and octopi!

interesting, but 1 question.... does the ant move automatically? b/c if it did, that would make it harder...

Well, I don't think you really needed to... the animated screenshot shows it constantly moving itself, or did I misinterpret the previous question?

If you would look at the news item above the screenshot is not moving in the news item (they are never moving in news items...)

How come this program is featured for the 83+ but not the 83? Same thing happened to Fire Track 2...

There's an 83 edition available, you know :).

Actually, on the calculator the game is a slight bit slower than the screenshot suggests, because it ran too fast initially. And with that I mean I had to slow it down (with a delay) but slowed it down a bit much because VTI turned out to be running at 150% on my ancient laptop ;). But the game is still hard enough as it is. (IMHO)

I think he means that the game has a 'blue' infofile logo (animated) next to his name instead of a 'green' infofile logo (featured) next to his name :)

It's fine on my 83+SE. I think the SE processor is 2.5x speed or something like that compared to the regular 83+.

It is, but it's set to "regular" speed in ASM unless you override it. I didn't ;)

Hey I now actually understand what antrun means. I thought it was some orcish sound AntrUn, but it means Ant Run ofcourse :). It's nothing like Pipe Dream, but more like the old spider game I used to love.

Actually, Kozak, you're the only one who got the name right! No ofcourse you didn't, silly man! :p

Thanks for the compliments. I must say, I'm not entirely unhappy with getting featured for a program I coded in two evenings either ;).

Great game Job. Nice to see another Dutch author getting featured... Two evenings? Man, it's taking me so long to program my paratrooper game, but school and other stuff has a higher priority. I know, I know, it should be the other way around ;-)

Anyway, I'm going to download it right away!

my browser most definately does not 'suck.' i am using the best open-source browser out there, mozilla firefox .8, and by no means does it 'suck.'

It most likely was... DotTK (as I mentioned before) has had a lot of problems in the past, with not loading the pages, so I find it easier just to go to the real page and skip the redirection.

As for his browser being the best... *shrug* That's all, of course, a matter of opinion. I like IE5 and above.

correction: i did not say it was the best browser. I said it was the best OPEN-SOURCE browser. And on my comp the startup time and page load time is a lot faster than IE 5.5 and IE 6.

Well, IE6 loads google.com (my homepage) instantly for me, so I don't see how it could really be any faster...

by start-up time i meant the time it takes the program to start, and by page load time, i meant the time it takes to render the html into viewable webpages. Also, it has tabbed browsing, something I couldnt live without.

Pardon my ignorance, but I don't see the difference between tabbed and windowed browsing.

With tabbed browsing you don't need 150 separate windows (slight exaggeration) for browsing lots of sites. You can group several related pages in one window.

Maybe you wouldn't benefit much or any from tabbed browsing, but some of us do. Frankly, I don't use tabs hardly at all; I've set middle-click to open a new window, and I typically have 10 to 30 browser windows open (minimized usually). Perhaps I should use tabs more often.
