Antrun for 83/83+
Posted by Michael on 9 February 2004, 22:53 GMT

[]Antrun by Job van der Zwan is a game for the 83/83+ (83 version) where you must guide your ant (conveniently the size of a single pixel) across as many tiles as possible. In order to accomplish this, the tiles must be rotated so that he does not smash into a wall and die. According to the author's readme, you can imagine your pixel to be anything, even a cephalopod. Cuttlefish and octopi!

*has an 83+ so...ha! (and 92/92+)
This game reminds me of that old water pipe game where you have to move the pipes while the water is flowing before it spurts out...but anyway, nice to see the concept go to the 83/+

That's funny. There's also the game called "Pipes" in the file archives recently for the TI-83(+). It's in BASIC, though.

So you don't have to really pretend it's an ant? I was in Bio last year, but I forget... what's a Cephalopod? Isn't that something like an octopus? I was never good at bio.

From m-w.com:

Pronunciation: 'se-f&-l&-"päd
Function: noun
Etymology: ultimately from cephal- + Greek pod-, pous foot -- more at FOOT
: any of a class (Cephalopoda) of marine mollusks including the squids, cuttlefishes, and octopuses that move by expelling water from a tubular siphon under the head and that have a group of muscular usually sucker-bearing arms around the front of the head, highly developed eyes, and usually a sac containing ink which is ejected for defense or concealment

the author probably didnt tell anyone on the staff about it, and perhaps it could be that it is a V200 game, and antrun is 83+.

yes right, the author (= me) didn't tell the staff about my game. I didn't know about how getting files featured. i'm not english and so i'm proud of bringing the game onto the server at all.
and yes, my game is programmed for voyage 200. so what? are programs writen for v200 not worth being featured?
and yes, it's writen in BASIC

my 2 cent

Neither job did tell the staff... But I think it is the fact that nearly nobody has a Voyage and nearly the most users do have a 83+ ... So the chance a program for the 83+ is featured is better than one for the Voyage...

Btw.: This game is programmed in ASM, not in Basic :) Just to clear things up

Well, I didn't ask to be featured either. I think Micheal Vincent featured it because he tried it out on his own 83 SE and thought it was a good game. But in all honesty I must say I'm impressed you managed to write a Antrun/spider/whatever game in basic :). Although I don't know if the 89/92/V200 basic is as hard to program (decent) games for as the 83.

Actually, it's just that it's easier to program on the V200 than on the 83+.

Just a reminder, games made for the V200 also work on the TI-92+.

gah, if you want him gone, buy him an 86 and a v200, and take his 83+ for costs (-: With those two calcs, he could code for the v200, use the 86 in school, and not have an 83+ to spam the ticalc server with files of less than 1 kb. There.

Currently, he's no. 1 in the list of busiest authors with 285 files. If he released *every* program 3 times (which he doesn't), he'd be no. 18 with 95 files. That's still impressive, I think.

Do you mean that if he released each program once, hed be no. 18? I assume that's what you meant.
