100000th News Post!
Posted by Michael on 24 December 2003, 18:31 GMT

This news article marks the 100,000th post in our news database. The actual number is less, because of deleted comments. Thank you to all the authors and users who have made us able to reach this milestone! As you know, Magnus has recently been working on improvements to our system, and we hope to have an even better news system in the future. What programs get to be featured in the one-tenth of a million news article, you ask?

XPak 1.0 and uView 1.0 have been released by Paul Froissart. XPak is a file compressor for the 89/92+/V200 that works like ZipLib, is almost as powerful as TTPack, and several times faster. uView is a companion text editor.

Basicbuilder by Martin Warmer is a Windows program to convert your BASIC programs into flash applications for the TI-83 Plus. This seems perfect for personal use, packaging games so that they can be run from flash and avoiding the pain of constantly ungrouping them. Please don't release a million number guessing game apps, however.

Oh, and right now - Merry Christmas to those of you in Australia.

Wow, This is a crazy thing. I would have uessed that there were far more posts than 100000. I mean, i must have posted more than 1000 myself. With more than 100 people coming here, I would haveee thought it way more.

-Oh, well, I am often wrong, W-

Yeah....but there were all those pointlessly deleted comments, which would subtract from the total number. >:O

Oh, nevermind...I just realized my mistake...The postnumnbers include even posts from other things...not QUITE as many as 42 have been deleted, but still a lot have. I posted yesterday or the day before...beating no_one I might add :)...and that comment is gone now. :(

LOL *idea* You should take screenshots of your posts for proof ;-)

And I have another idea. I will search for the 10000th post. You can see the post number in the link when you put your mouse over it. Wish me luck! Haha... *images new article headline* "10000th post deleted"

Wait... what the- I can't find it anywhere! It HAS to be in that poll, but I don't see it! There is no 10000th post! (Either that, or it's hiding from me)

100,000*

I think the article is the 100000th post, though I don't see why it should be counted as a post...

They are always counted as a post! And the article is the 100000 post.

There is a very good reason for this. It's buried deep in the internals of the comment handling system :-)

The post at the top of the thread is actually responding to the article topic "post", if I understand the system correctly.

Oh that makes sense... so, then the first post is really just a reply to the article, which is, in its own sense, the first post.

Well, aparently the 10,000 post was made in '97.

This could have been news to me, but have the old news articles always been read-only? That is right, I tried to post on a news item from 97, so sue me. It was kind of weird, because there were some articles with 0 posts.

Articles with 0 comments? That's interesting....now they're filled with comments.

Always? No.
For years now? Yes.

Some older articles have been made read-only because they were being abused (because they were at the time not checked by news editors, and there was no notificatino system in place)

Ah, so my idea of using the old news items as a non-moderated board was proposed by another, and you all stopped it? Sounds like what you said....
