Tezxas - ZX Spectrum Emulator for 89
Posted by Nick on 29 September 1999, 23:24 GMT

Samir Ribic, previously unknown to the TI community, has released an interesting program called Tezxas for the TI-89. This program allows you to emulate ZX Spectrum programs on the 89. It comes with some samples, too. Don't know what the ZX Spectrum is? Click here for more information. It's easy to port these programs to the 89; the documentation in the program helps explain how. This is reminiscent of when the Chip8/SChip8 emulators were released for the 92, the 92 Plus and the 85.

This emulator runs too slow! Also, you can't read the menus, that's all I've noticed.

well, all i really wish to say is that there was a Chip8 emulator released for the 83 by Joe Wingbermuele. Don't know if there's one for the 85 too...

You make it seem like Joe is the only one who can code good asm for the 83 :)

Who programmed Joltima? Nothing against Joe, but Joltima is probably the best 83 asm game, graphic wise, that I've ever seen.

Justin Karneges programmed Joltima. He also wrote a very nice terminal program for the 83.

Yes! A system I have only seen on emulators is now usable on the TI89! This should make the TI89 game library equal to the derivitave at the start of a parabola. But still, SMQ beats Manic Miner.

I hate both SMQ and Manic Miner. How about tons of quests, 3D-simulators, and other cool stuff for Spectrum?

Probably Tezxas is pronounced: 'Tez-Xas' or 'TEZ zas' This is using phonetic guidelines as written in Webster's Dictionary.

Did you know that Noah Webster (first Webster to start the dictionary stuff) was considered a loony bin for the ways he thought people should pronounce words? He was thought to be a complete idiot because he wanted to further the uniqueness of the American English language!

Who says calculators aren't educational? I just studied for history tomorrow!

Does this remind anybody else about that one IBM e-commerce commercial, where the japanese are sitting around a table trying to figure out where they should buy adapters, and then they get a bid online for half of what they expected to pay, and then they ask where the bid came from and the guy says texas and then they all say "Tez-xas"?

Anyway, I seriously need to stop watching so much TV. Maybe I'll spend more time online instead...

I looked at that website. Some of the games are double dragon, doom, and WWF Wrestlemania. I dunno if these will work on the 89, but I hope they do.

Well, DOOM and WWF were for Spectrum 128, but Double Dragon was for Spectrum 48, and therefore it should work.

From famous PC games there are also Spectrum versions of Elite, Defender of the crown, Sokoban, Tetris, Test drive 2 ...

I tried Elite and Test Drive 2 also.

Elite is my favorite game. I hope you will implement tape support or smth to save current state of the game to be able to play Elite and many other games.

Can someone help me?
