Street Fighter II v0.19 Beta
Posted by Kirk on 8 May 1999, 18:41 GMT

Thomas Corvazier has made a web page available to the public. The web page, among other things, contains the pre-release version 0.19 of the program that was previously posted here; v0.18 for the TI-89 and the TI-92 Plus is available from ticalc.org, while both v0.18 and v0.19 are available at the Street Fighter II web site. English users will want to use Babel Fish or another translator to translate the page from French to English.

Hmmm... I wish I had an 89. Too bad it would be a felony for one of you happy 89 owners to e-mail me your rom for an emulator, no matter how much I was willing to pay (hint, hint)

The 89 uses FLASH rom, which means you can download an 89 ROM from ticalc.org's website. Simple download the windows version, then unzip it, the .tib file is the ROM.

Will that work with a ti-8x emu? Doesn't it come as an .exe that's set up to flash the ROM over the graphlink?

89 ROM
Ty

Just D/L the 89 (or 92) Flash program from www.ti.com, and right click it. If you have WinZip, it should give you the option to extract it to a directory. Extract it to wherever, and the .tib file is the ROM. I don't know if it works with emulators, or if you can send it to your calc with a parallel link.

Now, I have a question. I backed up my calc with nothing on it with WinTran. Now, I have a file called "code.89G" Is this the ROM? I opened it up with wordpad, and on one of the first lines there was (among other trash)the string "TI-89 Advanced Mathematics Software". I am guessing it is the ROM. Does this work with emulators? Which one is the best?

A .89G file is not a rom, but a "group file". It is a file that contain many variables. In your case, after your backup, this file may contain every variables you had on your calc.
And if it is not empty though your calc memory was, it should be because there are some hidden-variables that are always presents. Maybe I'm wrong ?...

Re: 89 ROM
Nathan

First, the .tib file IS the Rom. and yes, it does work with emulators. i've used it with Virtual TI 68k. If you have a 89g file, that shouldn't be the rom. The 89 and 92+ don't have REAL backups. they just take every variable and stick it into a group file. I've ungrouped backups before, so that's that. Any questions?

It's already been said, and one of the things in quotes.txt for #ti is something like "TI gives away free 89 ROMs!".

At www.ti.com/ calc/docs/ graph.htm

14 other articles...

Hmmm... I could see how one could get confused, but I just reread the previous 10+ articles, and I got the impression that Texas Instruments hands them out for FREE!!! This means it's not illegal to ask for them. They are being handed out for the very fair price of $0.00.

I don't know though, that's just me...

Freeware vs. free software. The ROM is free software.
Freeware can be downloaded and used for free. It can also be freely given to anyone by anyone (everybody) (loosely stated).
Free software can be downloaded and used for free. It may not be freely distributed by everybody (again, loosely stated).

Yes, but...
moose

I understand what you're saying. So TI wants TI-89 owners to download it from_their_site. But if Texas Instruments truly wanted to prevent their ROMs from being thrown around and emailed to God knows where, they would not post them up for grabs on their own site!

(Unless no one working there has ever heard of an emulator...)

Of course, since I'm going to be tethered to my computer anyway, I could just dig up that old copy of SF2 Turbo that I got for my PC way back when, and have color and sound etc.
