Sam Heald has released the Legend of Zelda Demo v0.52.3 for the TI-82 (Ash) and TI-83 (AShell83). Sam has taken over the project from Harper Maddox. This release fixes many bugs and adds a few new features.

Sam's future projects include Rogue Runner, NFL Blitz, and Baseball II. For more information on Sam's games, check out Sam Heald and Derrick Ward's website.

Hey, I hear of an 86 version, but can I use it with out using any Shells? I just run most of my programs out of ASM. Is this how it works? Also where can I find this .86P so I can use it.

PLease email me location/file if possible.

A severely limited 86 version is availible in the 82 ASH version's zip. It will only run using ASE. It's not worth the time to port it out right(since simultaneous development on multiple calcs is a major pain, and supposedly there is a zelda 86 in the works), so I simply pluged some 86 values into the 82 source for ASE undefined ROM_CALL's (MUL_HL, DivHLbyA ,etc.), then recompiled for the 82, and ASE-converted it using CONV.BAT.

When the game is finished, will you convert it for the 86 too? :o) First off, I heard the supposed
Zelda86 is a fake, (If I'm wrong, I apologize to the author in advance, keep up the hard work) :o) and besides, even if it is in the works, why not portit anyway? You might have the same general idea, but I'm sure the two storylines will be different. It's not like Tetris, you know ;)
Anywho, I can't wait to try this demo, and keep up the great work.

There was Zelda86 which was fake(i think), but now there will be Zelda:Reckoning time for both TI-85 and TI-86... Check out Macross Software homepage. This IS NOT fake=)

Could you give us a rough estimate when this game will be available for an 86? Not the ported or 82 version, but a strictly 86 version, is this likely in the near future?

There probably will never be an 86 release, maybe for the 85 after the 82 version is done. I doubt any Zelda will ever make it's way to the 86, and I seriously doubt Zelda 85 will work for the 86 do to prog size limitations (heck, the sprites alone will take up 12K).
Please remember this is only a demo! It's less than 10% done. This release is just a message saying: "Hey, this project has been resumed. As a sign of good faith, here's a bug-free version of Harper's demo. Expect something more official before the millenium."

You're seriously wrong about the 86's size limiations. The 86 could run anything the 85 could run. There is actually a shell now that runs Dadaelus. Here's the deal: the 86 has 8k of ram just to execute asm programs. It also has 16k of free ram that is just scratch space for programs (Bomber Bloke uses ALL of it, btw). So you have 24k of ram for programs to run in. That's all the memory that your 82 or 83 have. Want close to 32k of contiguous ram to execute programs in? Move everything from $c000 to $d748 (_asm_exec_ram, maybe less is required, dunno) into a new string, then move the stack to the top or bottom of ram. Then you have from $8000 to $ffff execute programs!

Now, what were you saying about the 86 having limited ram? ;-)

which shell is this?

I admittedly don't know very much about inner workings of an 86. I just repeated what I was told. Incidently, if 24K programs are so easy to make for the 86, why couldn't ACZ's genius, CLEM, get Quest III to work for the 86? ;)
Don't answer that. Answer this: Where is the shell that will run Dadaelus?

Actually, there is a better way than moving that stuff into a new string; you can exchange it with whatever is to be executed. Also, the stack is already at the top of ram...

Port to 85? Huh, we now have competitor=)
It's likely that Zelda85 will come in 2 pieces(worlds) which you install one at the time. Also, it probably uses compression, which would decrease size of the graphics enough. Grayscale is in, of course. And as for the port to TI-86;
I don't know how it will be done but it's likely there will be one. I hope to get Beta out to you folks soon, we obviously will release one.-

This should be great game, and it's likely that BETA will be out soon... keep your faith in us:)

The new updated version still crashes my 86 when I try to enter a door. I think it is the one to the dungeon, but then again, I've never been there so...
By the way, click on "web page" to go to Macross Software if you don't know where it is. The 85/86 version is being developed there.

What is your ROM version? I played through the demo 4 times on my ROM v1.3 86 using ASE v1.3 before releasing it?

ROM version 1.3
AShell (ase) version 1.3
It was actually my friend who had the problem, and I'll check his version in school tomorrow. His calc is only a few months old, so maybe his ROM version is different (Mine's over a year old) I'll play it on mine when I have time and report back...

I had the exact same problem. When I went to open a door, my calculator froze up. It's not the dungeon, cause I've already been there. I have rom version 1.6.

I played this on my calc, and I beat the 1st boss, getting the 1st triforce. Then I couldn't leave! I could move between the blank screen where I slew the boss, and the room with the chest holding the triforce. Maybe there is a trick to it? I have version 1.3 Whats the difference between 1.3 and 1.6? Did I get a junk version?? :)

There is a trick. If you remembered when you went in, there is only one open block for you to travel through. You have to try to get right in that exact spot!

Try pressing ENTER when this happens. That makes to work again. I think this building was supposed to be a shop of some sort. It might jump to a 'shop' section of code, which enters a keyloop an waits for an enter press. Just to test hotspots...
