I got my 83 plus back in May. Before I even had the calculator or a graphlink I downloaded almost every TI-83 Assembly game. When I got the calculator and the graphlink I went nuts when none of the games worked. But at least now there is a good amount of 83 plus games

I've had mine for a little over a year...and during that course I've had Tetris on the whole time- I just make my own games and post em up here for everyone else. Yes, and everyone who visits frequently and don't have a calc- go buy one. It's the most useful $100 investment you'll make for a while.

I agree. Best damn $85 spent on an 83. I've had it for 3 years and that thing has been thrown, dropped, slammed, kicked, punched, hit, smacked, scrached, warped, and just generally had the crap beat out of it and it still works! The outer shell and casing looks like sh*t but I can still play those games :)

Werd to that! I had a TI-82 starting in 8th grade that I left in a room in 9th grade never to be seen again, and since then I've had a TI-83 (now in 11th grade) and got a TI-89 as well last year. These things take the abuse in stride and have never failed me. Can't wait for AMS 2.00 and Statistics package for my 89.

The 89 and 83+ can't take quite so much beating. The LCD is not covored by a plastic sheet like on all the others. It is right on the surface, and easier to wreck

How about those new 83's?? Ooh, I saw my friend's 89 get thrown across the room. His calc want "SCHMACK" and the LCD broke into two. Hey, now there are no 89 users in Crap-Middle school!
My friend was playing Phoenix and the LA teacher caught him... Calc out during LA... Wierd. He said to me, "Oh well, all I got to do is but a new one."

But, an 89 (at the time when he bought it) was FRIGGIN $160!

I've used TI-80s and 82s in junior high, and borrowed an 82 during 10th grade (my friend had her boyfriends 83), and just this year I bought my 89 before school started.

Does this have to be the same calculator for the whole time? I had an 82, then a 92, and now an 89...

I got my calculator (83, ROM version 1.06--BAD version!) three years ago after the one that the school provides for the class (have to return it!) got stolen. Because I got attached to programming during that first year of having a calculator (8th grade), my parents got me my own for Christmas.
Prior to owning an actual calculator, I never got on the internet. In fact, I pretty much dispised getting on the computer! Wehn I got the calculator, I got so interested in programming that I wanted to learn other languages (my 9th grade research term paper was on Computer Programming--25 pages!) and didn't know how to start. My dad told me about the internet (well, told me that there was probably a ton of information on it about programming--I already knew about the net) and I was soon searching the most visited sights for TI calcs (the first I ever went to--and the only one I daily went to--was Dimensions-TI--I passionatly HATED www.ticalc.org's "blue stripe"!). I soon endevored into ASM with some major help of the "experts" at Joe Wingbermuehles sights' message board--A LOT of help! One day, Dimensions-TI announced that www.ticalc.org had "changed." I check it out and I loved it! I now go to www.ticalc.org, www.calc.org (Dimensions-TI), www.basm.org (ASM programming group I'm in--releasing a Pokemon demo in two weeks! aprx.), and, of course, the programming group I run, www.blankware.freeservers.com (Blankware BASIC Programming).

Well, without ever even HAVING a calculator, I wouldn't know ASM, nor get all the great information on programming that I get from "support" groups--namely one from TI. The TI Calculator has let me find something that I reall enjoy doing ALL the time(!): programming! I know have adjusted my high school classes to finish me with four AP math classes at graduation to help with programming--math is a MUST for programming--and have already signed up for the programming courses offered at my school--only two, C++ and some other class where you develope our own language and compiler (that will be a ton of fun! <serious>).

Well, enough about me--just wanted to say without the calc I wouldn't have figured out what I wanted to do as a carreer!

wow, i have had mine for one year, i got into after the one computer programming class my school teaches (Pascal) got over and i wanted to keep going. Pascal and TI-Basic are alot alike. and so after about half a year of Basic i went to learn ASM and ran into a brick wall, owning a mac. ( i love my mac, screw with macs you screw with me, i even work at http://www.insidemacgames.com ) so after the ASM feasco i went on to learn C, im still looking at getting a compiler

so does anyone have a good ASM compiler for the Mac, or a way to get Caz to work. i know i need to learn ASM some time down the line. i wana work for bungie software someday

Not true. You can buy standard '92s on their website and you can find them in stores. I know because i've seen them.

BTW, I put a 92 plus module in my calc, and it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. If anyone out there is using a standard 92, back up your data and upgrade ASAP. You won't be dissapointed with the results.

Speaking of upgrades, is TI going to make a TI-86+? I have a TI-89 and a TI-83, but I want to get a TI-86 too, but it isn't upgradeable, like a TI-89. Also, the TI-86 has that slanted screen, which I really don't like. Somebody please tell me if they're going to make a TI-86+ or not.

I like the slanted screen on the TI-86. It is better than at least the screen of the 83+ (the only other calc that I've used, but I do NOT own one, nor do I want to) because the screen on the 86 is protected. Tapping on the screen will not do anything to it.
An 86+ would be a nice idea, but it wouldn't be worth it, I would get the 89 over an 86+.

Which is better, the 89 or the 92+? I am going to save up and buy one of them, but I can't decide which one.

I now own an 86 which I got 3 months ago

It's me again!) Get a TI-89. Trust me in this. They're allowed on tests, unlike the TI-92+ and they're smaller and less noticable (when you're doing a test that requires a TI-83). Also, they're easier to hang on to. You can just put it in your pocket. You can't do that with a TI-92+ can you!?!

I suggest getting the 89 because I know somebody at school who has a 92 and he can't use it on tests, but 89's are okay. That's just one teacher though, probably different elsewhere.

If you have any other calc, get an 89, the key layout is familliar. If you dont like the screen on the 83+, the 89 has the same screen.

Smash the 86!!! Get the 86+!!!
da86guy Account Info

I have an idea for the 86+
1. Get an 89 or 83+. I would recommend the 83+ 'cause you will be throwing it away(or doing what you want with it.
2. Get an 86 & TiGL
3. Dump the ROM of the 89, 83+, and 86.
4. Get VTI
5. Open up the 86 and the 89/83+ - take out insides of them and place on newspsper
6. Pull out the ROM chip of the 86
7. Find a way to edit the ROM on the PC
8. Send it to a FLASH ROM chip
9. Put it back in place of the old pulled ROM chip socket
10. Modify the looks of the 86 screen - for flatscreen looks
11. Put the 86 insides in the case of the 89/83+ and vice versa
12. Hit [ON]
13. Cross your fingers and hope to die
14. Sell it for $20,000
If you try this idea, it is YOUR responsibility.

I'm a Mac user as well. To be honest, there isn't a decent suite of calc programming software for the Macintosh. That's why I use an old Windoze box for all my asssembly stuff. If you've got a PowerPC, get Connectix SoftPC and just use the DOS stuff. That's the easy way out.
