Sometimes.
Knight/Rocket Account Info

Since I am an avid 83+ Basic programmer, I often have the manual in my backpack in case I come up with something that I don't know how to do. Oftentimes it is faster to just look up the function instead of trying to figure out how to do it on my own.

I usually carry mine around for the exact same reason you do.

That's why I want an 89--the calculator has information on how to use every function stored inside it.

Actually, no. It only tells you some short phrase which gives you only a little information. It usually looks like this: you select the archive command in the catalog menu and the message (VAR1...) comes up in tiny letters at the bottom of the screen. Trust me, it is very little help. It can only aid in recignition, you still have to read your manual thourougly...several times if needed.

On my 83+ with catalog help it's the same thing, very little help at all. And speaking of reading the manual, two days after I got my calc, I had read the manual cover to cover. Now I've done that about six times (out of sheer boredom).

My 89 has a catalog with function help. It's brief and only tells you what arguments to give it, but it's very useful for programming. You can usually tell what the function does just from it's name.

A better way.
Knight/Rocket Account Info

There's a better way to find how to use a function than digging through the catalog. What I do is take functions I use often and store information on how to use them as a text file. That way, I can always double check myself and be sure the function is right.

Of course, this is useless once you have memorized the process, but originally it is very good.

Not to mention that writing that helps you memorize the functions.

It's not that hard to program an 83+. There are only like 300 commands, I know that and 92+ basic, which is much harder. I don't carry around the manual for the 92+, because it isn't that hard to program basic. I don't know all like 700 commands for the 92+ but I do know most of them, still I don't carry the manual, fag. Programming isn't that hard.

OK- in light of the comments above:
a.) I do not always carry a manual, hence the "oftentimes".
b.) Since I believe enough comments have already been made regarding this type of post, I merely have to add one question: What did I ever do to you? All I do is come to this site and try to add to discussions, then I get blasted by someone that does not even know me.

Hey, man! I don't know what your problem is, you f*****, but you are really starting to piss a lot of people off at this site. You made a comment like this earlier. Why don't you shut the f*** up and leave these people alone! You are an immature, selfish, hard-headed, closed-minded, dumb-ass fool! I don't want to see another comment from the likes of you that is degrading toward other people. Right now, I have absolutely no respect for you. In fact, you are the lowest, dumbest, most immature person that I have ever seen. So, why don't you take your special PDA, TI, Mac, and bad moral and get off this site!

The Shaniest:
I hate to say it, but I have to halfheartedly agree with PolarD. PDA's are much, much better than TI Calcs. I have the TI-92 (my baby), TI-85, TI-83, and TI-82, and ever since I got my Visor, the TI's have been collectiing dust.
The Visor has a module port built in (no Xpander required), IR port (again built in), backlight, etc... we've heard it all before. The thing that I love is that my Visor runs at 45 MHz, and I can play my Gameboy games, which will never happen on a calc (but, if someone can pull it off, my hat's off to you).
However, the Mac sucks. Plain and simple. It sucks. Personal preference, maybe, but the Mac sucks. Long live the Red Hat / Win 2000 Dual Boot!
And, buddy, you don't have to like homosexuals (I don't) but you're not getting anywhere the other way, so sit back and enjoy the ride.

I don't even think I know where my manuals are. The only time I have ever opened one was when I started programing basic on the 85 back in the day. The reason why I opened it was to see if there was a support number. That is when I found 1-800-Ti-Sucks, I mean Cares. Other than that, I don't even know what my 92 or 89 manuals look like.

Your manual is that 2 inch thick, white, paper-back book with a third depree function printed in black on an axis in the near-center of the book. It should say TI-85 in the top-left corner, but it varies from manual to manual.

I've got the old red 83 manual. My brother's 82 manual is grey. Just so you know, some of them weren't always white.

Yeah, but it just so happens that the TI-85 has a white cover. Gray is a color of some of the others, but the majority are white, which is why I used white, not gray.

Actaully, I went searching for my old 85 manual. I found it in the basement. How it got there I don't know. Anyway, my 85 manual is kind of a light greenish color. I found my 92 maunual also. It is green and gray. I opened it. It's pretty interesting. Smelled like a new book.

I read through most of my manual, and keep it at home. I usually know enough about my 89 to just use it at school, but when I come across I function or something that we need to use in math or whatever I just go home and look it up to see the specific details on how to use it. But I really know my 89 well enough to use it w/o the manual now.
