What are these programs? Never used even one of them! Will they run on a Mac?

I don't think they want to know who uses these, but to see how many people actually KNOW what these are!

I have heard of all of these programs-- but not until I entered college to study electrical engineering, so this is why many of you may have not heard of these. As to why post this type of survey-- well, all of these programs have tons and tons of functions useful for math, engineering, and physics. So, if TI knows who uses what most often, they may attempt to program their products with similar functions and function names (so it would be more useful and user-friendly, respectively).

I've never heard of them either. I do use a program called Symetrica - if any one knows what that is. :-)

I haven't either, but are they similar to "TI-InterACTIVE"? because that's the math studio that I use. if it's in the same class of programs, why wouldn't _TI_calc.org, put an option for _TI_-InterACTIVE? hmm...of course maybe the listed programs are far better...

They're symbolic math programs. They're very usefull tools. Put an equation in and the solution pops out. Or a graph.

It does other stuff too.

I know there is a Mac version of Matlab and I'm pretty sure there is also a version of Maple. The others, I don't really know.

I believe OS 9 comes with a built in graphing calculator. I'm not sure about previous versions of the OS, but I have seen it used.

They are math programs and run also under windows.
I work with the control toolbox of Matlab and it's very powerfull

At school, we work with Maple on Macs, and at home I have Maple and Mathematica on PC. But I don't know for all the others.

I have personally never used a single one of these programs. I'm pretty sure they're math programs or something. I use Satan's Internet Explorer the most... why isn't that one of the options?

Was this posted b/c i mentioned Maple on the TI-Math list? well, my mail server is down, so that sucks. Maple is kewl. Anyone know where to "get" a copy?

So in one article we have people complaining about TI not wanting their ROMs pirated, and then we have a poll in which people are asking to pirate other math software? Well what a damn lot of hypocrits we are =)

I totally agree. I myself had a bunch of ROMs(read: nearly all models,OS versions,etc), and I said - "you know what, if I made something to make money, and there was an additional feature that was supposed to be only for people that owned whatever it was, I would be mad if someone pirated it/"Free software Adovacted it". So - I deleted them. I'm not going to play Mega man 86 until I buy my own calculator. Etc...

besides - I don't want MY web-site closed because of illegal actions. Hey I would like to know, "someone" said that TI hated the name tinews.net, but if that was true, wouldn't TIcalc.org, Dimension-TI, TIgalaxy.com, TI-files.org, and all those, be 'closed' as well? hmm...

I think the "TI" in those other websites (whatever they are...:)) is to help distinguish them from such websites as "hpcalc.org" or some other claculator website. ticalc.org is a program archives for TI graphic calcs. thus, TIcalc.org

Since you're in college, you'll probably have an easy time finding pirated software on your ResNet.

(Note to any Maplesoft lawyers who are reading this: This is just an observation, not a suggestion!)

I don't know about the US, but here in Sweden most "colleges" (not called that, but similar) have licenses of at least two of these programs available to all students as long as you are enrolled. For free. (Pay a sum to get the CD only)

MATLAB, backwards/archaic as it is, has copy protection built in...not that it isn't crackable but you either have to know the registry entry or install from cd yourself...it's enough to be a pain in the neck if you're switching from dos (windows for those of you who believe the scam) to linux and want to run it using Wine.

So I guess that you Warez kids/pirates(really just theives, to be direct about it) make things rough for the rest of us. Copy protection+increased prices=headache.

The concept of copywright protects us all. It prevents me from taking your programs, putting them in a book, and selling them...think twice before asking where you can "get" software!

Hopefully, all you nerds should be familiar with a program called hotline. Though i don't know if anyone actually posts this stuff on their servers, I have seen mathimatica on at least one.

Oh yeah, it's illegal to download anything you don't own, and you can only use these servers for you're personal backup purposes.

Mostly, but Andy, Doug and I were talking on IRC a few days ago about how my college requires Maple, but I own Mathematica.

That and the fact that we needed a new survey. Badly.

Universities can purchase a license for software, so if you're ever required to use one of them for a class, you'll probably be able to download the program for free. (Well, not really, since your tuition money helped get the license :) ) That's how Northwestern does it with Maple.

Look. It's pretty obvious most people who answered this survey are most likely not in college. I have used most of these programs, but I am a junior in engineering. You have to know these programs if you are in that field

Dude Nick, you are totally right!!!!! I have never even heard of any of those programs and I call my self a computer genius. But hey, I'm still in middle school anyway so. Anyway TI 83 Plus games are very popular at my school it is a big hit. SO that's why i joined this site. I'm a new member here so . . . And i think this site is awsome!!!!!!

Being older than ugly ... but I have a nephew starting grade 7. Hey, I use MathCAD and have Mathreader [a kind of Mathimatica] on my Mac but, hey, I will not let my nephew NEAR any one of the programs mentioned until he decides to prove the world is flat and Einstein was wrong ... they can turn your to MUSH faster than a 92 PLUS on steroids IMHO Stick to your 83 for now

hmm...I didn't quite follow that. You mean
1) you are more old than ugly
2) you have a Mac (no wonder you are old and ugly ;)
3) you have a nephew in the 7th grade
4) your nephew must first prove Einstein wrong, and announce the world is flat before he can come close to Mathreader?
5) your nephew must also do equations faster than a 92 Plus on steroids
6) everyone has MUSH to turn by either a 92 Plus (fast), a Mathreader (faster), or an 83 (slower). Thusly, each of us may choose how our MUSH is turned by which ever software we choose.
7) or is MathCAD faster than the 92+ with steroids?

MuPad (www.mupad.de) is similar to Maple and free for students. Limited free DOS version of Maple is available on any Simtelnet ftp site in msdos/math directory.

MuPad is excellent. There is a freeware version for windoze that will do everything most folks need. The upgrade to the full version is not too expensive. For other operating systems, all versions are freeware. I use the Linux version and find it quite easy to use.
