Instead of telling us how fast you can go, why not show us by joining the TI RC5 Team and help us crack some encryptions and win some money.

I have 56k. The only thing I can get faster where I live is ISDN, which is much slower than DSL or cable and costs twice as much per month. I guess I'll just have to wait a year or two to be able to get DSL, cable, or Sprint's Wireless Broadband.

I thought that ISDN connections have hourly rates - which is one of the worst things about them (especially when both Cable and DSL are available - the only problem is getting my parents to spend the extra $10 or $20 a month for the connection [and I am too young to get a {decent} job])

All this talk about speed of internet connection led to talk about who has the best computer. Everyone seems to look over the important part. It is not how fast your computer is or how fast your internet connection is, its what you do with it that counts. I know people that could out program you on a little 486 who cares if you have a pentiumIII 800 mhz but all you do is search the web using AOL and download music. Big deal.

Download what *kind* of music on a 486? MIDI?

I can still hear the obviously satanic sounds from my dad's 486 DX4-100 as he tried to play an MP3...

I have a modem that won't go any higher than 28K because of the bad phone lines where I live!!!!!!! No DSL or cable modem either, and if I use my school T1 line, the web filtering software running on a slow server degrades performance to 0.3 K/sec!!!! When the filter is off it goes 60 K/second but they keep it on. I have dual P2 350s, I had one and got another one really cheap, so I decided to use them both. Even better having a SMP system gives you an excuse to your parents to delete Windows 95!!!!!! yay! I built my computer so I bought 192 MB of RAM.

1) Why did you feel the need to post that?
2) Why did you choose that particular number? Couldn't you have chosen something more relevant, like 1.618 033 988 749 894 848 204 586 834 365 64? (Phi Day is tomorrow.)
3) What exactly are you "testing"?

What a bunch of losers. "oooo, I have a (insert chip here) running at (insert clock speed here), with (amount) RAM and (amount) hard drive, as well as a (type of) video card and (number)X CD/DVD ROM/RAM/whatever. Look how cool my computer is and how I have to brag about it because I have such a small penis. Seriously. This board was started based on a survey of the speed of our internet connection, and isn't a forum for your small penis overcompensationism. If you want to brag about your comptuer, start a new forum or something. Call it "I have a small penis."

I'm not entirely disagreeing with you, but I personally think you used "small penis" way too many times. In response, ( Insert four letter word here ) you!

I love Red Dwarf!!! Which, in case anyone is reading this, is where the terms "smeg", and "smed head" were coined. It's an imaginary swear word invented by the creators of the show as a sort of "future" cuss word.

As for me, I love Red Dwarf too! I have all the episodes and some memorablitia from the show. But, I was told that Smeg, was an actual thing. I read in a medical book, that "Smeg" was the white afterbirth of babies!?!? (King's English) So, calling someone a "Smeghead" - hence the name - was a symbol for calling someone stupid and or a baby. I never would have guessed anybody would know anything about it!

The term you are referring to is "Smegma". A long time ago, my math teacher had objections when I said "Smeg", so I looked it up and found "Smegma", not "Smeg". I can say "Smeg" and it doesn't mean the afterbirth of babies.

Alan Rudolph,
I agree. I have a 56k Modem with a 48.8 connection 98% of the time and I had to wait 3 mins for the page to load. ticalc.org needs to put up another questionaire or divide this one into smaller sections. My modem can take, Mp3's, multiple DL's without a major hit in speed, direct connections, and surfing all at the same time, but this is pushing it here. It froze up all my other open net windows so as to put all the "power" to this one, that is ridiculous. Well time to get cable I guess.

You my friend are lucky, here in La Jolla CA you can get all different type of DSL, but at least we have kick @$$ cable. There are way to many types of DSL to muck(read F***) around in. But very sad I have 56k S***.
