Before I came to my hay highschool that is against TI, I started a programming club in my 8th grade math class during free period. However, I moved on, and so has that...

A high school against TI?!? This cannot be! Quick, send in the shock troops (82's and 83's), then the armored divisions (the rest of the Z80's), and follow it up with the heavy artillery (the 68K's)! And if they resist all that, then we'll use our new secret weapon, the TI-Nspire CAS!

dont u think that they are against ti simplay because people have developed games for the calcs? some games, in fact, are massive and amazing, like original gameboy games. to add to that, does anyone think that someday, professional programmers will make marketable games for calculators? (big ones that are expensive, like $30, insteaed of just $7)

But still, u are right. we need to show them that casios are the crapiest calcs around and ti is and always will be on top!

uhhh..... no. Calculators are meant to be educational devices, and if companies start producing 30 dollar games which kids urge their parents to buy for them to play during class, there is bound to be an outrage from the parents... besides, the calc really has its limits anyways.

Gasp! A traitor in our own TI ranks! The only limitations are in your mind!

but dont you think that there will someday be a point that ti upgrades their calcs so much that there's no difference between a calculator and a gameboy?

haha, don't get me wrong, I love my calcs, I have nine of them...or was it ten? i don't even remember anymore, its of the two, but anyways yeah but games made for them, I don't think they are going to get any better than what we already have, and as for TI eventually making them like gameboys? I guess its possible, heh, i used to think of my TI-83+ as my gameboy...until I got the Ti-89...then the Titanium, which im already using to play gameboy games with the GB68k emulator anyways.

I'm not so sure about that, but even if TI does nothing, the programming community will find ways to expand the calculators' capabilities.

Exactly. Look at Detached Solutions. They added things to the 83/84 Series no one thought possible.....

You can expand and expand, but there are just some things you can't program into a calculator. you can't make *good* color,(i know people have tried and it didnt turn out so great :) and also, the RAM limitations are the biggest problem. If the RAM were huge, even if the calc were still *supposed to be* monocrmoe, you could have massive RPG's. games don't always need good graphics to be fun.
My point is, even with programs (including ones that allow the user to access more ram) you cannot upgrade it drastically.

What about HP? HP definitely has better calc than Casio.

That they would ban TIs because of games doesn't make sense. Every graphing calculator that students use today has had some game made for it, so if it was for the games they might as well have banned every graphing calculator.

I think that if programming graphing calcs were encouraged then there would be a lot fewer people who play games. I used to spend my entire school day playing games on my 83+SE, but then I got a Voyage, and now all I do is write source code; it's so much more fun.

I think if programming calcs was encouraged, more people would be playing calc games and more people would be in some sort of calculator clubs. The schools would all have their super good unique programs made by kids around the school, and everyone will want to play everyone else's program.

possibly, but I think that more people would write non-game programs (gasp!) also. that's what I meant that I do. I don't write game programs on my calc; I only do that in C++ on my computer.

Actually, I heard that my teachers don't like TI as much because it is so easy to hide answers inside programs for math class, or put notes in (NoteFolio).

Of course, the games probably are one of the top reasons, as a lot of kids DO waste time playing games instead of paying attention, then fail and take up the teacher's time for retakes...

But why would anybody spend $30 on a TI game when good ones are available for free here, or anybody can program their own? One of the top reasons PS2 games and stuff cost so much is because it is a lot more difficult to obtain the materials to create a working game for the PS2, and the scumbastards at the head of the video game corporations take advantage of the fact that only a few people can actually make their own game... even though it IS possible...

It's not too difficult to obtain the materials to create a working GBA game though. Yay GBA!

So then what you do is you have everyone use a calculator that belongs to the school on tests (that's what my trig teacher did to me when I wrote a program that had the entire unit covered). Or you have everyone trade calculators so they can't have their own programs on the test.

That first idea works, but the second idea is not as good. Once one person makes a decent program, the whole class WILL HAVE it after two days. For that reason, I make it a point to remember how to do everything by hand. I absolutely refuse to do my Alg 2 tests with a calculator. One day, a kid said I cheated with a calculator, and haven't used it on a test since.

I'm not so sure about that. a lot of people in my school are so protective of their programs that they'll actually sell them or not give them out at all. but if you go to a school where that's not the case, then you're right.

But like the games, that's something that works on all calc brands! *scratches head*

Haha, I'd join the TI army!

Hmmm, they must have some undercover Casio and HP agents infiltrating the staff...
