Here too. I've yet to release ANY games I've written, mainly because I haven't finished any of them to my satisfaction. I'm a bit obsessive in that regard. I've made several that work and run well, but are not up to spec IMO as far as UI and optimization (although the optimization part will never be perfect).

And of course, I got an 89 2 months ago, and trying to learn that's stuff is much different from the 83+ series, which I could do most anything with (in BASIC, granted it was possible of course.) The 89 is great, even is BASIC is vastly more useful to me. Maybe the program I am working on right now will get finished, then I'll post it, even if it isn't streamlined yet, since if it even gets to a working stage it should be cool. I'm not saying what it is though...

yea its possible, once you learn all the optimising tricks. For that I might have to point to unitedti.org forums, which has a section for BASIC optimising of tifreakware.calcgames.org tutorials :)

or you can cheat and use SourceCoder optimiser once its finished XD

I had the basic thing pretty much figured out for the 83+ in my mind (basically, I would have forgotten it all by the time I needed to remember it for writing;)) I was just going to use a LOT of little side programs, would have packaged it up nicely with BasicBuilder for the release.
I must say, though, that it is much easier to do in 89 BASIC, but I abandoned that branch too, though I may come back to it. I am writing it with ETP-Studio at this moment, although I may have to give it up and return to BASIC if I cannot figure out a few things. The author only seems to know French, which I know exactly 3 words of, so I am kindof flying blind since he has not documented everything. Its getting there, though, but it is stalled right now. Hope to get back to it in 1 1/2 weeks, when break begins for me. If it is ever released, I am shooting for next Fall, maybe a beta release earlier, depending.

I'm in the same boat as you. I still have a question about 89 BASIC. Is there a "Menu(" function for 89 BASIC?

I get tired of using the Dialog function.

Menu() for AMS

Popup {str1,str2...),var

or flib: flib("menu: height, x, y, title, options") [take out the spaces]

Flib rules!
If I end up using the BASIC route, I'll be using Flib.

Do you get picked to be in it? or can you submit a program to be voted on?

So far as I can tell, it's limited to programs that were featured throughout the year.

Yeah, if you want to get your program in for next year, try to get it featured in an article.

In other words, you need to get someone to review your program, right?

There are no qualifications to becoming a featured program other than it's nifty, novel, and useful to a reasonable sized audience (or some combination of these attributes).

E-mails suggesting programs are always encouraged to news@ticalc.org. The best format is plain text e-mail containing a link to the program's page and a description of the program that highlights the best points. I get very few e-mails so many of the featured programs are either noticed by myself or suggested by other staff members.

true, I only emailed ticalc once for a program feature and that was for zelda DLQ, then what I discovered is that ROL3 made it too then every other programs I released made it as well (except my 1337 h4x0r Omnicalc font and Diortem)

Back in the day, there was a rule of thumb: "BASIC is usually not newsworthy." Now we've got a POTY survey with (IMHO, unfortunately) 3 out of 7 programs being BASIC. Why this change in principles?

There is no change of principles. Unfortunately there were not many good programs released this year, but Kevin released three amazing (for BASIC) programs. I would much prefer it to be 3 BASIC programs out of 40 featured 83+ programs. Alas, there just wasn't enough other people programming.

Well, to be fair, there were plenty of other people programming; but not many produced noteworthy programs!

Principles? A good game's a good game, no matter whether it's written in BASIC or assembly. Look at some of Kevin's games, especially XXR - they're definitely not the typical "guess the number" BASIC games you might have seen.
