Mailing lists are fun.

Not sure what other ideas they have in mind though.

Same here, it just seems like so few other people read/respond to them that it's not really worth it.

Morgan complained that it was different, so I decided not to try it for a week and see what happened :P

Here's a suggestion: a forum for each calculator or calculator language located somewhere on the site. It could be moderated or self-cleared on a regular basis. It would also eliminate the daily 20+ e-mail messages about topics that may not be relevant to the end-user :)

There are the "Program Ideas" and "Upcoming Programs" boards. They are split up by topic (former) and by topic and calculator (latter). Not quite what you desire, but close enough. And nobody uses them, that I know of.

That's sort of what the Program Ideas one is for...

I know that, but they aren't designed for developers.

I'd like to see forums or mailing lists for general discussion about various topics. I think a forum to comment on ticalc.org or report problems, ask questions, or give suggestions would also be a good idea.

But mailing lists or discussion boards would allow people to join in and share their opinions and discuss issues.

How about "Yes, but I have no idea how a mailing list works, and, furthermore, I don't have that many good ideas."

Just about how I feel. What is a mailing list, exactly? And how does it work?

Do you know what an email alias is, the thing where you send a message to alias@server.com but it is actually delivered to address@server.com? Well, a mailing list is kind of like an alias for a (potentially large) number of email addresses. If you send an email to one of the mailing lists, that message is delivered to all the people who are on the list (called the subscribers). If any of those people want to share their thoughts on your message, or answer your question (or have another reason to want to reply) they can send an email to the list too, which is again received by all the subscribers, including the person who send the first message. Actually, in practice it is used much like a message board.

umm, after I saw that there was like one post a month, I decided not to bother, and UnitedTI works fine for all my calculator discussions. If more people started posting, I might try looking again....

Well... for how many years now have the archives been "temporarily" offline? And there was some actual, useful information there that has since been lost. Not very encouraging, that.

Only about one year, IIRC.

I loved the lists and read them often! I just didn't have lots of time on my hands to post as often. One of my favorite things about a mailing list is that it comes to your inbox, rather than you having to go get it. Please bring the lists back!

I agree. I learned a whole lot in "TI Graphing Calc History" by reading those list archives.
