Make that three.
This has happened before, so it wouldn't be all that strange. However, peterthegreat's reply is also duplicated, and I think that *is* very strange...

Perhaps he first replied to the first one, then later seeing the second one, (which lacked his reply,) he thought that perhaps somewhere along the line his post did not get through, so he posted again.

Then again, perhaps he fully understood what he was doing, and just decided to be silly... like I am being now...

Um... I'm sure if you looked hard enough (in public places) you could find enough loose change to buy 2 dollar batteries. You could also perform some sort of talent on the streets for about 10 minutes to get the 2 bucks. The question on my mind is... How can you have enough money to eat, and not have enough money to buy 2 buck batteries. I mean... how can you have enough money to waste on a calculator, and not have an additional 2 bucks on batteries to actually work the calculator. It just doesn't make sense!!!

Please try to keep things in context will you... I said, "how can you have enough money to waste on a calculator, and not have an additional 2 bucks on batteries to actually work the calculator?" I believe that this implies that without batteries to work the calculator, the calculator is a waste. I mean, what good is a hunk of plastic and metal? Not spending two bucks on batteries for your calculator is practically the same thing as hitting your calculator with a fricken hammer!!! I love my calculators!!! I have four of them!!! And I use every single one!!! So don't you lecture me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. I'm not really mad... just wierd.

The calculator itself isn't at fault, and still contains much good data regardless of battery state.

But without batteries, the data on the calculator is unrecoverable. So really, without batteries, it is just a hunk of plastic and metal.

Is it the calculator's fault that it doesn't have batteries? Don't call it a waste because of circumstances beyond its control.

I've probably used my calc way too much...I've had my new Titanium for maybe a month, and the cover that used to be next to impossible to get off is now sliding on and off the calc way too easily...im starting to worry i might accidentally drop it and be left with a cracked LCD and a *almost* useless plastic cover with the Texas Instruments logo on it...

That's where the GraphLink comes in. :)
Seriously though, creating a serious program oncalc doesn't sound like a good plan. The benefits of making it on a computer range from a much larger screen (man, I hate those 8x16 character screens) to the ability to use "advanced" features (such as copy-pasting a piece of code).
In my experience, coding in GraphLink and debugging in VTI makes programming a lot easier.

I mostly use ZDS/FlashSim for my programming nowadays. ;)

I used to use ZDS, but the interface just wasn't to my liking. (Does anyone else have a problem with the mouse wheel not working on it!!!) I just created a shell script to manage the assembly and linking of the different modules, and use Kate (a Linux editor) to edit the files. I can customize the highlighting that way.

I slightly agree with you. But I (as a programmer) preffer to spend my time at home on the computer writing C++ and such. Wheras I spend all day at school writing progs for the calculator. Besides, I'm still unable to get that stupid ROM dump onto my computer. It just doesn't read it. So I can't get VTI to work, so i'd have to put it on my calc anyway.

IMHO, people who write software have a little more respect for licensing.

And, it is funny (actually, sad,) how often Christians seem to ignore such things...

It's ironic but true.
"The greatest single cause for athiesm in the world today is Christians, who acknwowledge Him (Jesus Christ) with thier lips but walk out the door and deny him by thier lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable." -dctalk
"I'm part of the problem I confess, but I got to get this off my chest, let's extinguish the anguish for which we're to blame and save the world from going down in flames" -relientk
It's sad to see how many people really don't connect the two (thier church life and thier life outside of church).
I've also been homeschooled all my life also.

Hey, I had that problem on windows also. No matter what I did, I could not get the ROM dump to work. Funny thing is, it worked under Linux! I was shocked! Weirder still, is that I still cannot get Tilp, which is a native Linux program, to work properly. Weird.

I just noticed today that it works perfectly when I run it as root! Something about using 'direct access' allows it. I will have to look into it more.

Does TILP use a device file (like in /dev)? You probably need to set the permissions if it does; either add yourself to the file's owning group or make a new group ("tilink", for example) and add yourself to it and change the owning group of the device to it too (or you can just set it to world readable and writable).

Otherwise I don't know what I'm talking about. :/

A heck of a lot easier. Before I had VTI, I would write some code at one computer, take the file on a floppy to another computer with the graphlink, send it to the calc, try it out, go back to the other computer, and rewrite it. VTI really sped up the development process for me.

Re: ¤

Currently I have only a sneakernet connection between my development computer (a blazing Pentium 233 :) and the computer I use for testing programs (1100MHz AMD) on VTI, either through Wine or sometimes through Windows (blah).

I guess it helps (or maybe because of that) that I can now write a lot of code "blind", where I don't see the results until later. With a sneakernet I can't just code a little, test it, code a little more, test it, etc. as I used to do when I was a novice Z80 assembly programmer. I'm glad those days are over.

Re: Re: HELP!!!

Heh, I do all my BASIC programming on-calc. I can type pretty darn fast (60wpm w/o puncutation--yes, I have clocked myself) on my TI-89, so I don't see a need to do it on the computer. Now, if I'm programming in C or ASM, then, of course, I use the computer. But then again, "serious program" would probably refer to most C/ASM programs rather than BASIC, so it would still hold true for me then, too.

>>>"ability to use "advanced" features (such as copy-pasting a piece of code)."

TI-89 can do that!

And actually, the z80 calcs can do this as well, and I take advantage of that, quite often. Ever use the 2nd+Entry command? Or ever tried to 2nd+RCL another program? It just inserts it right in. So, you could type the to-be-copied text in another program, and 2nd+RCL it as you like throughout the original program OR write what you want in the homescreen and use 2nd+Entry as you like in the original program. Both work very well.
