A long time ago I updated a program adding an author to the program, but when it did add the author the download count (approx 1,200) was reset to zero. Seeing how thta was kind of unfair I thought I would get the downloads back.....I got tired after 20 :-) So I admit that I have even cheated stats!!!

Come on everyone let it all out...

Does creating a series of lots of basic programs count as cheating?

<Ducks for cover>

Offtopic but sort of on topic: how much attention does each uploaded file get? I am wondering about above link. And I've seen pc projects with documentation that says that some day it'll be ported to z80 asm.

Hey! They weren't all in basic :-) I ported the 86 set to ASM! None the less I stand by them and would do make them again, I only portd them to so many calculators because people asked me to. It was weird one day when someone asked me to help them get a program off the school computer to their calc and it was one of the Physics programs I made :-)

Well from what I can tell a program that is on the front page gets somewhere in the area of 4 times as many downloads as it normally does (pending how long its on the front page) Thats just a guess tho.

I agree, that is why it is always nice when the archivers take longer to upload the programs. ;)

Or you could use XML and put a slash before the closing > to indicate an empty tag. :-)

Not just XML, but HTML does that too, like <BR />

Now that I think about it, I don't think that was meant to be a tag, but just punctuation. :)

Well, it's kinda' pointless when it works without a closing tag (see link and scroll down to 'single tags')

those elder HTML definitions are, allowing those *evil* unclosed tags, are depricated.
It's just a matter of time when the more strict an convenient XHTML standerd will rule the web.
although I fear it will take eternity ;-)

Having my computer crash and losing all my programs I made for my 83+ being lost and then downloading them off ticalc.org again, does that count as cheating?

You were utilizing one of the primary puposes of an archive, I would argue that you were in no means abusing the download statistics.

Seeing as how my computer sucks and I keep having to do system restores I have used the archive to get all programs that I have on my calc back on the calc. But now I have a good computer that wont happen anymore (ot so I think)

Well, I know it's not a Dell if it works good. I have had nothing but problems with my laptop and my dad's computer won't let him download virus updates but it says it needs them but it won't let him...you get the idea, I think Dell sucks.

I agree. I have a 10+ year old Macintosh and it is reliable but it is also unbelievably slow and it's too old to connect to our new internet provider because they only support windows and MacOS X. 8.1 not equal 'X'

Besides, I got a whole new system when Airborne Express lost the old one an hour north of our house.

:)
