Back in the day I would update something (yapt) to see its downloads skyrocket. But I've never downloaded my own programs.

I would do the same thing, though it would only be because the program needed to be updated. ;)

Yes. I have gone out of my way many times to refrain from downloading my own programs - who would want to download mine anyway, they all stink. Thus, I have never downloaded my own programs.

I suppose this was prompted by the "God of Jur" incident. How did that happen, anyway?

I'm not sure, but I saw that at the top with another level set from the same guy near the top too. Sure enough, a few days later there was a discussion about that in the forums...
I don't think it matters that much though, especially if the program has a screenshot. You can see for yourself how good/bad the program is. It's not worth cheating just to get on the tops of the list. You probably get caught anyway. (Hmmm...God of Jur)

No one could have downloaded it that many times. The author must haved hacked into the server somehow.

There are ways to cheat like how he did, but I won't be spreading them around. And as far as hacking into the server...LOL

Ah, yes. The idea of someone getting past Henrik's paranoid security settings is certainly a ridiculous idea. :-)

It was a Mario levelset. It got about 1000 downloads the first day. I was very suspicious, and a bit jealous. But not anymore.

It wasn't any particular incident... it's happened about 14879489 times that someone's file has illegitimately found its way to the top of the downloads list. We catch it every time, and then we have to fix it, so it's just a waste of time for everyone.

I remember when I downloaded every 83+ an 89 program of TIcalc.org. Now, I've lost the disk, so I just download the ones I want again...

Yeah, I have probably tried every program on ticalc! (for my calcs of course) Maybe that is why I can write reviews for most of the programs. ;)

Not really cheating, but My comp had issues and I 'Fixed' them. :) All of my TI-Data was lost, so I came here and downloaded all my games again so I could continue to my work...

Whatever happened to the allfiles.zip file in every directory. That was a nice feature, along with the ftp download ability.

I just felt the urge to reply to a stupid post.

Now I want to complain that none of my files have download statistics, because they are all NoteFolio appvars. Now I can't make my english teacher angry by telling her how many people no longer need to make Great Expectations vocabulary cards by hand.

Heh, no. Well... I may have downloaded one of my programs a couple times, I think, but I was downloading it to different computers in my mom's computer lab. So, from what I was doing (and the purpose for it), I don't really think it was cheating. There were only a few computers in the lab anyway, so it didn't matter. LOL Besides, this was like, two years or so, ago.

I wonder what would happen if I said I payed people $.50 an hour to download my programs...
But that would be dumb due to the fact that I haven't uploaded any. :^)

It occured to me that if I have a penny (US) for every time someone has downloaded a program from me, I could buy myself a sw337 computer ($2768) :-D

Unfortunately, 99% of those pennies would be from you...j/k...I was actually thinking about something similar to that a while back...if all the users had accounts that got charged one cent per downloaded program and the authors acount was credited with that penny...that would be a lot of fun. Imagine: You only have to pay a PENNY tto download a program, but could earn a dollar a week off even simple programs...the ones that get 100 dl's a week...Let me tell you, if this was how TICalc was in the beginning, Patrick Davidson would be rich...

But there would be literally millions of cheap quadratic formula programs, then!! There would have to be a (example) ticalc.org/83plus/basic/math/quadratic/ directory!

yea, but nobody would download yours if there were 10000 others... plus they could just put a $1 upload fee, if your program didn't absolutly suck, it would be payed back in a week (or 2 or 3 if it was basic and reasonably good)

Just write on the site, NO REFUNDS! I'd only have like 4 bucks or something...
