Of course we would like to know what from...highschool, upper secondary school, preschool, home school et cetera! And of course are you getting any degrees...associates, bachelors, masters, P.H.D., or even your G.E.D.

Thanks to Ryan S for the poll idea!

I will be graduating from Middle School! I don't think this counts, though, so I voted no. Oh, and mine was the comment before the second one.

"the comment before the second one"...clever...very clever. I actually just graduated from high school, am home schooled, and graduated by taking those classes at a community college which I am graduating from with my first two years of college as well! Unfortunately, I can't vote "yes" 3 times, so I guess just once will have to do...

I do respect the ability of the preteens, tho: some of -no all of- my (good) programming work was done with Perl at the age of 12.

I started programming when I was 12 too (or was it 11?). I did Javascript, though :)

I started with QuickBasic at about the age of 7.
I'm 18 now and am hoping to start University (Cambridge, Computer Science) after the summer.

that is so cool! kids really should learn good skillz early... but with the basics. It just takes too long to learn about computer workings (required for c++) and you can hone your programmer's mind by trying to get around limitations in bad programming languages (BASIC, JScript, applescript), and later even utilizing the hardware, like using the dual screen buffers in the 8x calcs.
On The Screen Savers a time ago (leo was still a host), Patrick and Kevin were doing the final question of the show. Some guy called in and asked, "how can I get my kid started on programming asap?" Kevin said to start him on linux instead of windows, which I thought was a great idea, but I'd say something like TI-BASIC would be better... or even maybe Batch?

I learned Commodore 64 BASIC when I was really young. Then I started learning C when I was 13 (my co-students thought I was a nerd for some reason). I guess I just got a late start.

I'm 20 now (21 in June, at which time I can buy me some NaNO3!), and I'm just now writing some good quality (or so I think) programs.

My programming abilities had been hampered and corrupted by M$, such as using BACKslashes in file names, not using stdin and stdout for data, and from other stupid limitations and hacks in WinDOS. Fortunately, I escaped from that a couple years ago when I started working with Solaris and HP Unix.

I'm probably among the OLDEST persons here now. I feel old. :-(

BTW, no, I won't be graduating this Spring.

Download my cheap junk!

If it makes you feel better, I'm 20 to (no, not 22, unfortunately for you :D).
I won't be graduating either this spring. :( Why didn't you ask last year, when I got my propadeuse? (You get that after successfully completing your first year in university, but it only exists in the Netherlands AFAIK.) Could you please ask again next year (when I hope to get my bachelor)? (Come to think of it, how is "Bachelor of Science" abbreviated, it can't be BS, is it?)
BTW, why do you want to buy NaNO3? That's just sodium nitrate, isn't it?

"Bachelor of Science" is abbreviated as BS (bull "stuff"), "Master of Science" is MS (more "stuff"), and PhD is Piled higher and Deeper. :-)

NaNO3 is just sodium nitrate. It's a good oxidizer for various explosives, um I mean chemical reactions. I want to make some model rocket engines with "candy" propellant (sugar and sodium nitrate), and where I live the minimum age for obtaining chemicals like that is 21, I think.

C at thirteen is late? I did not pick up basic until I was 12. And at 16 I started to learn the hybrid C og TIGCC. I have still yet to learn a practical programming language. No, as far as I am concerned, you started nice and young.

OOH OOH! Sherlock Holmes joke! Sherlock and Watson were out camping one evening, and Sherlock looks up into the sky and asks Watson, "Watson, when you look up at the stars, what is the first thing that comes to your mind?"
Watson replies with what he hopes is an intelligent answer saying, "Well, I see what astrologers think helps predict the future, I see a field of study for astronomers..."
Sherlock interrupted him saying, "Watson you idiot! Someone has stolen our tent!"

Humor writer Dave Barry wrote, with regard to that joke:

"It would be funnier if Holmes woke Watson up and said, 'Watson, there's a weasel chomping on my privates!' I'm not sure where the joke would go from there, but you can't go wrong with a setup like that."

I don't know how many Brits like my good self here partake in the joy that is ticalc.org, but it relation to S. Holmes - if you go to the Underground station "Baker Street" all the tiles on the walls are little portraits of the man himself equipped with deerstalker and a large pipe.

In the middle of this patch of tiles is a notice; "No Smoking"
