Bravo! It's about time something gets done. I think the archivers should screen the files and make the signal:noise ration larger on the signal side and smaller on the noise side. But if this would put too much of a strain on them in the long run, I would like to see the rating system instead. Granted, it's an even bigger strain for the people who code the site in the short term, but then the signal:noise would be handled by the majority of site users (or at least those who care, like myself).

Also: I cannot find the Post Comment link in the news article related to this poll. Has replying been turned off for it already?

It was disabled temporarily because of abuse. It is working again now.

The link wasn't being abused, silly buns. People were abusing the comment board, so we disabled the ability to reply to the article for a short time. Thus, that made the link disappear. :-)

Hey, why are you complaining? Not like you've ever uploaded any programs. It's not like he's uploaded Quadratic Formula programs.

Hey, come on. He has the right, and his Civ. Sim. was pretty darn good, or so I thought. I know some people simply download the ASM files only, but I, for one, appreciate those who spend the effort to make at least something decent. I will admit that a lot of crap programs are on this web site, but pointing fingers doesn't help any.

ALthough, there are some people that the so-called "crap" is the best there is. For example the best program I have ever created is Tic-Tac-Toe (2 player link) but I have not yet uploaded it and I keep saying I will but I'm not yet.

Besides, it would be a waste of time to upload somthing if it might be deleted. I know it would make me less likly to ever upload somthing and possably less likly to download things because I seem to like things that most others I know with calculators hate or don't care about.

I agree with matt. Noone will upload stuff, if they have fear of it being deleted. Nothing should be deleted. it should just be moved somewhere, or put near the bottom of the list.

My only disagreement with you is that it SHOULDN'T be put at the bottom of the list...I think that the files should stay in the order they are now, but to have a CHOICE to sort by rating if you want. Similar to the sort by date option we currently have...

That's a good idea too. I don't see why they can't have it sort by all the catagories--

-filename
-size
-description
-download stats
-ratings
-(etc.)

I totally agree! I doubt people go out of their way to upload "crap". I mean I would be hurt if my file which I worked hard on was deleted because popular vote said it's crap. I mean I go through all the trouble of teaching myself basic, and making a program, testing it, and uplaoding it; why should I worry if it's popular or not. So maybe it's sub-par, maybe i'm not a super programmer, but if the file works, let it stay.

That's my point - My "fancy" programs to a lot of people are considered "crap"

Man, calm down!!! Just because someone has taken the trouble to upload a file here doesn't mean it's not crap. Just look at all the quadratic solvers!!! I've even uploaded some junky programs myself when I was young and stupid (I've had 99% of those programs removed long ago).

We once had someone upload 26 separate ZIP files, each one displaying the value of a different variable on the TI-83. Would you want these in the archives and be able to mod them down, or would you rather they never made it in the first place? It's up to you guys.

Oh, we never let them in...I know we let some stuff in that is borderline, but definately not that.

How about that time someone uploaded 99 files each showing how to use differernt functions of the 83+. I went on a deletion spree after telling the guy to upload them in a group tutorial...it was fun :-)
