I voted for screenshots, but then Irealized that I don't mind the half second it takes to download programs and test them out. I would really like to see a discussion board, like this one, but where we [the users] can choose the subjects and ask our questions.

I also wish ticalc wouldn't delete comment strings they don't like. If people are interested in the subject of the particular string and no one is offended by it or asking for it to be deleted, then it should be left alone.

<sarcasism>
No, because like Chris said, ticalc.org has a responsiblity to "clean up" such stuff like "misinformation". For example, what if Joe accuses Mike of being gay? And then before Mike sees Joe's comment, 10 people have already replied to it and its all over the internet in a matter of minutes.
</sarcasism>
That's why ticalc.org censors stuff. :)

Check out www.dictionary.com. 'sarcasism' isn't a word, according to them. I believe them. I think you mean 'sarcasm' instead.

LOL, especially since Bryan always critisizes people for their spelling.

That's not what I meant. Clearly the facts that Joe, Mike, and Bryan are gay are of no importance to anyone. Things like that should definitely be deleted. I mean that if someone brings up a relevant subject out of context, then it should be allowed to remain there. Don't assume that people aren't interested in it just because it's unrelated to the article title. I don't think anyone minds when these comments stick around.

I know, but notice my sarcasism. :)

Actually, the way the ticalc.org staff interprets this, they say that off-topic comments just "get in the way" and they delete them to make room for the more "relevent" discussion.

I say, "whatever". :)

suggestion for next survey?

Maybe for the next survey, Ti-calc can ask if we want to keep our off-topic posts?

But then after the survey turns out the opposite of their views, they would have to think up a good excuse of why they must go against the majority...

Personally, I appreciate what the TI calc staff does, and they can do what they want with the site, it is their site after all. It's the best site to download calc programs imho. Whatever they wanna do with the site, i ain't gonna complain, if they make the site suck, then people will just go elsewhere.

But I doubt you'll get the joke. I also doubt that I spelled "cordata" right (I think it's "chordata". I'm sure Bryan--being the spelling bee champion that he is--can inform me of the correct spelling.)

Did anyone else notice that ticalc never posted the actual results to the anarchy/moderation/no-posting survey? They just said that most of the votes were for their system. I think it's all a big coverup <conspiracy theory #273>

Actually, you _can_ view the results on the survey page, but thats buried about 2-3 levels deep into the site.

Re: Re: Re: Re: suggestion for next survey?

You're right. About 200 people voted to delete inapropriate comments and remove posting ability, and about 100 people voted for anarchy. However, deleting inapropriate posts doesn't really mean off-topic posts, it means fecal language and non-calc related.

Hah, good luck! Someday you will learn how fun it is to deleted other peoples shit. This isn't the "moral" thing to do, but some people don't care about that. Basicly, your a play toy for ticalc, and not in a good way....

I doubt they will delete it... putting "this comment will be deleted" puts them in a nasty view if they delete it now that several people will have commented on it.

Then someone could talk about a user that had the offensive comments off, and the other person would have no clue what's going on. For example, if Joe posts that Mike is gay, and Mike has the comments off, everyone else could see "Mike is gay." except for Mike.

Note: Heterosexuals named Mike should not take offense at the previous posting.

*cough*

ok, once again i'll sugest that ticalc uses a "slashdot-like" system. If you don't know what i'm talking about go to www.slashdot.org and see what I mean. It doesn't have to be done exactly like they do it, but there is no reason that this great system can't be used by ticalc. Oh, and you can get their source code for FREE.

Slashdot has it set up so that moderators can assign points to a comment on a scale from -1 to 5. Normal people won't see the -1 post unless they want to, and high-scoring post will be displayed instead of thier headers. The moderators arn't just the staff of the site, they are also users that have proved themself worthy of the rank.

Slashdot's Moderation system
PsiPhi

Actually /. uses a -2 to 5 scale and adds comments such as Informative, Funny etc...
But I do agree, using Slash (there Perl script) would be IMO worthwhile.

(The -2 posts are set off by default when you sign in, you have to enable them through preferences to see them, which very few do, myself included)

uh, sorry dude, but "-1: Uncut and Raw" is the lowest setting. There is no -2 score.

that's hard to apply. I'm not bothered that they're offensive, just that they have nothing relevant to say and they make it take longer to load the page and scroll down.

Yes, ticalc.org is really lacking a general forum. This is one of the reasons that makes me go on dim-ti.
What do you think of this idea ?

I like dim-ti's unofficial news board idea, but it leaves no place to discuss. I don't like their feedback section because you have to click the link to view individual comments.
