No, though they may work on developing one, right now TI seems to just be sort of coasting along. They don't seem to release new calcs that often, so I don't think they will release one very soon.

I know this may not be especially relevant, but speaking of new calcs, I'm designing a faster TI86 with flash and a Z380. When it's done (it'll take a LONG time) I'll post plans for it here.

Build a speaker port into it, and I'm sold (Well, more memory also). Oh, yeah, like I prought up on a previous story, take some newer techs, like small hard drives (like in the iPod), build in a MP3 Player, FireWire and USB ports on the side, Ethernet ports, mabye a modem, bigger color screen, faster processor (I know that the 68k type processors go at least to 33 MHz, but if they went to a PowerPC processor (which technically goes up to at least 1.42 GHz, but that isnt a true PPC, it is the G4, but that runs real hot), they would be able to run 68k stuff (I think) and use PPC code, only downside, it would crash more due to the PPC code), FireWire Target Disk Mode built in, ability to choose which system to open (a.k.a. the Mac OS's Startup Disk chooser), mabye an option to have either a GUI or a command line... Yeah, give me that, I'll buy it...

I agree, TI calcs are fine as is, though they'll probably make an intermediary between 86 and 89 because of the price gap, or at least I think they should because that would most likely be profitable to get more intermeidate purchases.
What you guys are looking for with the fancy features is insane. Get a PDA and muy graphing software for it. Making the 83+ Blue is not a "gay"decision. TI makes money from the Blue calcs and the colored slide covers. If TI was your business and someone said you'd make tons of profit from making "colorful" features, then you'd probably start selling color slide colors.
That's the Apple situation. How did apply gain back so much (relative) of the new computer sales market, the iMac. iMacs are terrible computers, but they look good and thus clear the shelves faster. THe improvements are marginal, quick setup, one unit to manage, etc.
Whatever expansion TI does now in its ed. products department will be expanding to new markets. Colorful calcs sell better for younger users (hence the 73x), they ought to expand further into the business market for engineers, etc. to have mobile calcs that can be "clenched". They could easily enter the business market offering PDA software and desktop products, some sort of secure excell plugin line, etc.
The new buzz word is "integration". How about "SPOT". I would war a TI watch. It's not about performance, or looks, its about what customers want. Very few are worried as much about performance as looks, as long as it gets the job done, and for most people, any old 83 will do it.
