I actually use both. Becuase of WinXP ya know.
Connect:
Good for most basic programs. I don't think TI was thinking when they made this. Obviously it doesn't support the Theta character, sometimes messes up BASIC programs when you send them to the archive. Obviously I use this to send MOST BASIC, ASM, and FlashAPPs.

Graphlink:
XP has something against this. Nevertheless, it gets memory page errors all the time. I use this baby mostly to send TI-83 Games to my calculator. ASM Games that are not compatible with Connect.

TiLP hates XP too.

Well, I use Mac OS X, so my only choice is TiLP. Unfortunately, it's fairly buggy (can't transfer anything after a certain (random) point), and hasn't been updated for a while.

Well, Mr. Franklin, that's the tradeoff of using a Mac.

I thought they had connect for X also... but then agian, I still use 9, I wish I had X... but I have Windows too, so whatever limits I find on any of my OS's, I can just change comps, and do whatever... But I like my Mac most... as most of you all know.

Anyways, TiLP is good, so why use anything else.

TI-GraphLink works well for me under Classic after a bit of tinkering...I have the gray link and TIGL fortunately is friendly to my Keyspan Serial->USB Adapter, as is TiLP which I have tried under X but much prefer the Linux version ;-)

BTW, I'm running TiLP 6.00-pre4 (Debian)---am I the only one that can't find the "Custom setting" option under the Communications preferences, either as root or non-root? I've tried editing ~/.tilp but my settings don't "stick."

[I'm late, I know (hey Roms !)]

I'm lacking time at the moment... I'll do my best to resync with TiLP v7.00 so that we can make a joint release, but I can't promise anything.

I'm using VTI as a linking program, by doing so I also allways check if the program is working before I send it to my calc.

But this poll makes me think about trying something new. Maybe, maybe not...

VTI can send programs to your calculator? I never tried that before... Hey, cool symbol on the 'A' in your name Å :)

yeah...you can setup a virtual link...it's just like sending from one calc to another. well, of course it is, since vti is a virtual calc, but...just right click and see virtual link, you can change the settings there.

is it possible to send from the graphlink (connect, anything really) to vti? it would make it easier from graphlink when ur editing programs, since it's got the send button right there on the editor window...and vti can be a bit...odd when it comes to typing in text on anything but the 92.

Big question here... why is it that W32Tran8x is the second-most downloaded program of all time (after VTI), but the poll says that no one (not even no_one) uses it?

There was a time when it was really, *really* popular. I used it for a long while.

I'm actually kind of astonished at these results...

I've mentioned before that the "no one (not even no_one)" joke is really overused. Please stop. Every time I hear it, it makes me want to take a pencil, sharpen it, and jam it up my nose.

Ouch, that has to be the worst impulsive action that anyone could have as a reaction.

I mainly use TI-GraphLink for everything but the TI-83+. I could care less about the speed of the transfer I just want something that can make basic editing a lot easier(and i curse the incompatibility of the TIGL83 with the TI83+ everyday). If anything I would use fastlink as an alternative linking program because it serves its purpose and its relatively small for the range of calculators supported.

I've never noticed you complaining about it before, nightrose, but it seems as though if you DON'T say it, Philip has to say something.

The "I use an 81" Option should be "I use a TI-80 and/or TI-81". There was no link port on an 80 (unless you had the teachers edition or one for the projector). ~Chucky D
