I still use the old Graph-Link software; I haven't heard too many good things about TI-Connect.

One of these days I'll get around to downloading some of the third-party software though.

TI-Graph Link is nice... it does it job. As for TI-connect, it is too slow. It REALLY can tick you off when you have to wait about five minutes to send an APP to your calc. *sigh*

How true....

If you have 21 apps and 120 programs on your calc, it takes quite a while for the thing to load...about 2.5 minutes!!!

Does it job? the program crashes about every 2 minutes, while transferring a file takes at least 5 minutes

What? I didn't undestand that... "does it job?"

I'm guessing that that was a mistranslation from another language, and he meant to say "Does it work?". Job and work are often interchangeable, if you think about it... except that you have to place a qualifier in front of 'job'. For example: "I'm going to work." = "I'm going to my job." ('my' is the qualifying possessive pronoun)

TI-Graphlink is so slow if you have a TI-83 plus SE. It takes forever for it to send or receive anything. I once spent 30 minutes just making a backup on my hard drive. Guess I'll have to try TiLP...

Omg, yeah... when I borrowed my friend's TI-83+se for the night, it took forever to send the 24 games I got her... definitely slow.

FYI: it's a hardware limitation of the calc itself, coupled with the completely different transfer mode of the PC's serial port. The protocols have to mesh, and that's hard work (even for a few transistors and a quad comparator, which is the only IC in the Graphlink (I checked it myself)).

Yeah, I thought the regular TI-83+ was faster at sending files than the SE. Why did they change the transfer mode thing?

They didn't change anything. That is why you are able to send from any TI to any TI (with a little software help to make it an archive or something because the data isn't useful). Ti uses the same basic protocol on all of their calcs. If you also notice there are several programs that take advantage of this fact. What changed is the fact that the Siver has TOO much Flash. I had mine fully loaded (every last game and almost every app) and it took several seconds (like 10) for me to scroll (at the top of the menu press up and it go's to the bottom) the programs menu even with its faster processor. The only thing that changed is the amont of data.

Back on the subject: The main thing that annoys me about Ti Connect is the fact that it has like five different programs. Also the sending program doesn't have a explorer portion so to quickly send anything you have to drag and drop. I will say, however, that it is slightly better than the original TiGraphLink but the fact that they expect you to have those on your computer, in adition to the current programs, to program in TiBasic (assuming you want to - sending on the old software is useful when taking advantage of a hack) is rediculous. All I think Ti needs to do is make the hardware, some preliminary software, some GOOD diagrams and info about the calc, and an open OS. I'm sure that we can take it from there. Think of what TIGCC, TICT, Detached Solutions, Thomas Nussbaumer (if any one person gets named it has to be Thomas), and nuberous other groups and individuals have done. The fact that on the 82, 83, 85, and 92, we (us as a group, definantly not me) had to hack the OS to have evey ASM game on the thing. Yes TI has helped out a little with Apps and such but all we really need is a little help, not someone accutually puting limitations in new OS's (eg 2.08 doesn't like ghost-space).

Think about all we have done.

PS - TiLP is a very nice program.

Time for me to whine: It takes about half an hour to back up the ~500k of stuff I have on my 89. And it's almost all basic programs that I have written, so I can't just download them again.

Sounds just like what I have on mine. However, I always use TI-Connect, with the USB link. It makes a HUGE difference. I realize now that it's the cable, not the software, that is making the difference. Oddly enough, getting a backup takes less time than getting all the files individually.

Yeah, it probably tells the calc to send all files, instead of requesting each one individually...

It works beautifully for me. The old Graph-Link software takes about ten minutes to download a backup from my TI-89. TI-Connect takes less than three. It takes advantage of the full speed capabilities of the TI-89.

I use FastLink - the fastest TI-83 Plus transfer program there is! It cannot send anything to the archive though, so I use Graph-Link for that.

I like Graphlink. It can fit on one diskette. I can carry or download it very easily, but currently I'm using TI Connect as it is easier to get screenshots with it.

TI-Connect
Ordoinc.

I really dislike the TI-Connect. Not only is it too confusing to use, it also does not have a TI-BASIC editor. I only use the Graph-link, although I still have the TI-Connect on my computer. It was a good thing that the TI-Connect package was free after the rebate and came free with my TI-83 Plus SE (which I bought after I bought the TI-Connect package).

I hate TI-Connect too, but Graph Link doesn't work under Windows 2000.
