Yeah, that's one of the more useful apps that TI has come up with. However, it is yet to be seen how well the on-computer program can convert files such as html to this e-book type file. Hopefully it works well, and this become an important tool.

Of course, neither work on the Macintosh. I'm going to see if I can recompile the commandline TICT programs and the commandline version of TIGCC for the Mac.

It's even easier with Panther... they ae simply BSD or Darwin Unix commandline programs.

Sounds awesome, although the library at openebook seems to be rather... narrow. Is there any compression in this format? Either way, I imagine that the TICT eBook reader will maintain the stronghold on calculator eBooks.

If it really is HTML, then no. HTML docs will use time and date (complications with JavaScript and VBScript to C, TI-BASIC, or ASM conversions). Plus, XHTML and XML are used a lot now, so maybe this isn't going to be as good as it is now in 6 months. Well, until we rise to the challenge and start setting PC's pace (starting to happen with emulators and things-math utilities), TI can't really be at it's potential or THAT up-to-date. But it's amazing that this is happening already-AMS is at the equivalent time of 1982.

Okay, I doubt it will do Javscript, but either way, it looks like a good program. I wonder how many HTML tags it supports...

I use 2.09. I've had no problems whatsoever on either my V200 or HW1 89.

I used to be a 2.05-only person, too, but I switched to 2.09 a couple of months ago and I haven't had a single crash or conflict.

I don't doubt that 2.09 is stable, I've even used it for a month, but there's ~64k less archive :(.

I used to be too... and then I installed 2.09 on my TI-89. Looks like I'm still a 2.05 guy. 2.09 doesn't do much good on a HW1. *grumble*

I needed the hyperbolic and trig funcs so I just go it anyway. There is no help of hurt except when it comes to ID which I use so 2.09 is a good thing.

Well, I don't think I'll need hyperbolic trig functions for a while, but the main purpose (to me) was the clock functionality. And that doesn't work on the HW1s, so there's not really that much of a point to it, for me. I'm too lazy to switch OS's though, so I guess I'll be keeping it.

What do you mean by HW1? Are there different types of 89's?

Oh, yeah. Currently there are two types, HW1 and HW2. Though the HW1 is no longer in production. The two differnces that I know of is they output to the screen differently, and the HW2 has more mem.

How do the HW1 and the HW2 output to the screen differently? Is it a cosmetic thing, or something with the underlying hardware that the average use would never care about.

HW1 - Has 384KB of user archive, 16:1 contrast ratio (approx), 10 MHz MC68000 processor.
HW2 - Has 702KB of user archive, 32:1 contrast ratio (approx), 12 MHz MC68000 processor.

The speed difference is not 120% as the specs suggest. There are other various hardware enhancements/alterations in HW2 calcs (V200, some 89s, some 92+s) which actually make the speed difference ~140%. The only compatability differences between the two is HW2s incompatible (or really tricky) display routine that doesn't work right with 8 level grayscale (Based on voltage IIRC), and HW1 cannot use the clock feature of the new OSs (>2.05).

Yes, you can use it on 2.05. In TI's words from the converter's Readme:

* TI Handheld Device/Version of Operating System:
TI-89 with 2.05 or later
TI-92 Plus with 2.05 or later
Voyage(TM) 200 PLT with 2.07 or later
"
Also, it is not a downgrade to 2.09.

It is really stupid that TI says 2.07 or higher for the V200, because it comes with 2.07 (when first released) so you can't have anything lower.
