TI Connect for Mac OS X
Posted by Michael on 24 July 2003, 04:19 GMT

TI has released a version of TI Connect for Mac OS X. Previously the Macintosh version ran in OS X under Classic mode, but now a native version is available as well. It's still in beta, so beware of bugs (about which they request you send feedback).

Here's another news item with an unrelated note: Many of you have continued to e-mail about the released ROM v1.16 for the 83+. There aren't any major changes, but if you are upgrade-happy, it will help your CBL 2 with 83+ SE communication.

why? PCs are so much superior, have much more programs written for them, and are much more widely supported, at least in the TI calc programming community.

I do a lot of gfx and 3D work on a computer. I need stability and speed. XP is better than what it used to be but the G4 and G5 procs are much more efficient than Pentiums, even Athlons (was primary choise). After looking around for about a year now and Apple comes out on top. Plus, if I need certain Windows Apps I can get Virtual PC from the Apple store. Did I mention that Macs are almost truely plug-n-play, they have been for a while and Microsoft still hasn't come close. Also the new OS allows macs to be networked to PCs. Amoung other things, the decision has been really easy. I haven't heard one argument against Mac that can't be countered.

No, Mac's are way better. Mac also came out with the G5, a 64-bit processor that completely smokes the Itaniums. My friend is selling most of his computers to get a G5 equipped computer soon.

I'm really not acustomed to being called "kid," I'm 17. No offense taken. I plan on getting the 15.1' 867MHz one. I will have 512MB (2-256MB for now) RAM and the 60Gbit HDD. I'm on a budget otherwise I would get the 1 GHz 15'.

Because PowerBooks are the best laptops you can buy. Go to CompUSA and try out a PowerBook. Then try out the PC laptops. Any PC laptop that looks and feels as nice as the PowerBook will cost at least as much. And it will be running Windows, not OS X. It is very nice to be able to run professional applications along side UNIX.

Let's hear the reasoning behind that smartass...

Macs (running Mac OS X) may actually have more apps than the PC, especially since it can emulate x86 oses...

Please note the difference between 'much' and 'many'. 'Much' indicates an amount or a degree. "I don't like you very much." "You wouldn't make very much money trying to sell your software." versus "You don't have many friends here." "Many people hate you."

It's about friggin' time! After all, Mac OS X has been out for around three years now. What was taking TI so long?

It's this thing called Capitolism. Since this is free, TI couldn't make a profit on it, and it got put on the back burner. Now that they don't have anything better to do, they are willing to go back and revisit this.

Wow. If they did, that would be awsome. I wouldn't need my Graphlink 82 anymore. But, sadly, I don't think its going to happen, again, because of this thing called capitolism.

I like GraphLink better than TI Connect because it's so much faster. Kinda like Lindows is so much faster than Windows...but we won't get into that.

GL is only faster if you are using the right cable. The only annoying feature about transmitting files to/from the calculators is that it goes through the calculator detection every time and that can take about 7 seconds, I could transmit a 48KB file to the calc in that time!

TI-Graph Link is much faster, and you can actually program in the little window there. It's faster than using the calc menus to find everything. I like Graph Link.

I haven't tried, but what other cable's can you use with GraphLink, besides the black cable. I have the silver cable but have never tried using it with the GraphLink software. What do you use that makes it faster than TI-Connect?

You can only use the black and gray cables with GL, the silver/USB won't work.

I don't think it's the cable. I use my black cable on both, and TI-Graph Link really seems to be much faster.

Either that or TI thinks they are loosing control of us because we keep making things better than they do :) so they are trying to rope us back in. Or, as you said, they have nothing else better to do, and it has been like that for a while - 3 new OSs in less than a year! I wounder if the next OS will be 2.10 or 2.091.

Re: Re: Re: Re: TI Connect for Mac OS X
TheGreatOne

It will definitaly be 2.10..just like 1.16 for the 83's...I even made my SysDoc program ready for 2.10. I just hope 2.10 comes with something really new and better, like what 2.08 did with 2.05, not with just little bug fixes and compatability issues like 2.09.

Hey! Maybe we should just get together and design our own calc! Then maybe TI will get around to the Voyager 400!!!

Unfortunantly, I have a 3COM winmodem, and am stuck with windows for internet. :p

Anyone who uses Linux full time is most likely competent enough to use TiLP, and I have a feeling TI knows this and has no plans for an official Linux link program.
