New Wireless Link Developed
Posted by Michael on 12 July 2003, 19:22 GMT
Cerrato Renaud has developed wireless linking hardware for TI calculators. This design uses a 433 MHz radio transmitter with a microcontroller, so it works without any special drivers. The range is stated as up to 50 meters. The demonstration software is for the TI-92, but it's easy to write programs for the other calculators as well.

This revolutionary piece of hardware marks a rennaissance of the TI Community. From this day forward shall we not be silent and stagnant. Let this event mark a new day for all programmers our there! Program my friends, and may the force be with you...
Hats off to Cerrato Renaud, for you, my friend, have sparked a revolution in the TI Community and we shall now from this day be reborn. Everyone should begin programming to celibrate this momentous occasion.

um, just how easy is "easy?" like "can be programmed in basic" easy or "needs asm" easy?

Well, this is all nice and great, but its not that practical. Why don't we just start from scratch and realize that its almost impossible for these calculators to do true networking with more than 2 parties. Hell, if you are so intent on that happening just make your own software.

NO!!! You are missing the point!!! By the time that we make an actual way for this to work, its gonna be pointless. Also, the capabilities do nothing if no one writes for it because its too innefficent. I mean, logically, we've seen how fast the link cable goes, and it wouldn't be good for gaming, even IM would be pretty sluggish. Also, the thing is, this network would probably not have enough distance to be useful. And, the fact that the data port on the calculators IS A ONE WAY PORT destroys whatever practicality there was...
