Calcwars Released
Posted by Michael on 25 May 2003, 15:17 GMT

Andy Hou has released a strategy game for the 92 Plus/Voyage 200, called Calcwars. Players build units, move them, attack the opponent's units, capture buildings, etc. A future version will have a calculator AI player available.

Update: The 89 version can now be downloaded.

Whoops, my mistake. Either way, wouldn't it be backwards compatable?

no.

And "backwards compatable" means...?

Backwards compatability means TI-92 NOT PLUS games/programs works with the TI-92 Plus (which it doesn't). NOT the other way around.
But it isn't backwards compatible, because the TI-92 can only run asm programs under Fargo/Fargo II, which is, as far as I know, completely different from the TI-92+/V200 OS's asm programming syntax.

http://www.technoplaza.net has the best (acually only) tutorials that I know of. I take that back, http://tict.ticalc.org has some good tutorials, but they are not focused on making games.

I'm sure you could still download it, you just couldn't upload it to a 92 Plus :p

Wow, this game looks great. I really want it, but I only have n 83+....Can you port it to the 83+, or at least the 83+ Silver Edition, either one will do. Please try and port it, I cant find any good RTS games for either of them.

Are you sure? The original Game Boy was z80, I think Nintendo has moved on to a more powerful chip by now.

Actually the while the GBA contains the GBC cpu (a modified z80), its main processor is a 32bit RISC 33mhz cpu.

I believe the z80 chip is for sound processing only. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It probably is used to emulate the original GB... And GBC...
I KNOW for a FACT that the GB and GBC use a z80. (Well, so they are modified... Who cares?)

Here is a more accurate description of the GBA CPU...

"The CPU is a 16.78 MHz ARM7tdmi RISC processor. It is a 32-bit processor but can be switched to "Thumb" state, which allows it to handle a special subset of 16-bit instructions that map to 32-bit counterparts. Instructions follow a three-stage pipeline: fetch, decode, execute. As a result, the program counter always points two instructions ahead of the one currently being executed."

The GBA has an ARM. It also contains the full GBC chipset, which includes a z80-like chip with different instructions.

Well, I assume it would be possible, but the calculator doesn't have enough memory or speed to run the games, I'd guess.

Yeah, many a time I've said it could be possible to people, then pointed out the restrictions...
*speed (GB: 8MHz, 83+: underclocked to 6MHz)
*memory: GB ROMS are typically the size of the entire FLASH ROM in a regular 83+ (512KB) if not more
*screen: GB: 200some by 100some 4level grayscale 83+: 96 by 64 2level grayscale
*sound: GB: mono internal speaker, stereo headphone jack 83+: LOL... Pitiful speaker on link port at best!
*input: the 83+ wins this one area
*power: GB: 4xAA GBP: 2xAAA GBC: 2xAA 83+: 4xAAA || All GB's have DC-IN jacks

Lemme look at my dismantled GameBoy circuit boards... (It was broken anyway.)
Power level indicator light
Better link port - 6 pins, not 3
On/Off SWITCH
Contrast wheel
Memory expander AKA cart slot
GB: 128KB RAM 83+: 32KB RAM

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Calcwars Released

A couple of corections...

GBA has no DC-IN jack (the GBA SP does however...)

about the input comparisons, while calcs have more buttons, the GB's buttons are strategically placed to allow maximum comfort and useability, and are probably programed to be used very rapidly (for button mashing, for example), while the calc's are meant to be used for typing, not games...

It's 16bit, it doesn't elaborate. It *does* have an 8bit sound processor producing 16bit sound, but again, no ellaboration.
