AMS 2.09 Semi-Released
Posted by Joey on 20 May 2003, 00:32 GMT

TI has released AMS 2.09 for the TI-89, TI-92+, and Voyage 200. The only catch is that you must download the newest version of TI Connect to get it.

Update: (Joey): AMS 2.09 is now available by itself. Go download it from the TI Online Store.

I'm not entirely sure what the new features are... perhaps someone could enlighten us all?

Is it <me>completely</me> bug free? My calc just crashed, and it reverted back to AMS 2.00.

Are you sure you're not looking at the hardware revision number? The AMS version isn't in the same place as it used to be in AMS 2.05.

My guess (based on previous changes) is:
* Some useless features no one (not even _no_one_) requested.
* Some new changes to prevent the playing of games.
* New bugs that will horribly mutilate your calc.
Anyway, without a good reason to update, I'm staying with my current OS.

>>> "(not even _no_one_)"

Thanks for clearing that up ;-)

It might have some good features... possibly some bug fixes from 2.09. I don't see any reason why not to try it out.
Oh, and would someone very kind download the new TI-Connect package and then submit the AMS 2.09 here by itself, or is that not allowed? I think it would be a good idea. Oh, and I bet it won't work with VTI.

Anyway, even though the new AMS probably isn't that great, this is still interesting news.
I wonder why they never said anything about this before? (TI, I mean)

But VTI didn't run 2.08 correctly, why should it run 2.09? It probably just runs it as it would with 2.05

Now, about that site again, I STILL can't get the 2.09 update... this is insane.

No_one, go near the end of the page, In a post by myslef wher I say "Click the link if you have a 89", click the link. It should take you straight to the page on ti's website where you select to software you want to download. The first item is the new OS...if you still can't dl it I don't think anyone can really help you.

On my computer, some of the VTI hotkeys, like control F2 (to open the window screen) do not work with the new ROM version.

Good thinking. AMS 2.08 was the pits, so why should we believe that AMS 2.09 will be any better? I checked the new features list at epsstore.ti.com, and the OS's look pretty much the same. If anyone would like me to send AMS 2.09 to my calc to see if that's true, I'll be willing to do so.

I have yet to download it myself, but its probably just fixes for their own idiocy in 2.08. I mean, how often do they update to add features as opposed to updating to fix idiocy? :P

They have now entered it onto their online store, and the news is: "The update adds support for the TI-Navigator™ system [...]". I was told that there were some trig-related changes too, so maybe the "cot^-1 in Degree mode causes an Internal Error" in AMS 2.08 someone complained about on another page of this discussion was fixed too. I have not tried.

Yes, that's been fixed. What was that bug with the new trig functions and matrices? I don't remember...

There are programs in the archives that fix the HW1 memory limitation, but if you're just wondering about the physical size of the OS, I think it's 67765 bytes (along with the system variables).

Cos and Sec are really pointless. Who is too lazy to type sin(x)^-1 or cos(x)^-1?

People want to use csc, sec, cot because it's easier to memorize and type-iff youre tiping too fasst yio gett typoas :)-perhaps on a test. I've been in situations where there are 15 seconds left on the test and I need to get as many problems done or half done as possible before the bell rings. It also doesn't need Pretty Print to display on the graph screen.

But you could make an app that redefines functions-like tihome.deSolve() is a function-so why not just write a flash app that creates the functions csc, sec, cot (or just BASIC functions)?

The TI-Keyboard and TI-Navigator support is good, though. Gone are the days when half of the TI-Keyboard manual is How to Interface With Your Application, and the associated memory penalty of having to write the same script for each app like 8 times.
