Annual TI App Contest
Posted by Michael on 18 May 2003, 06:52 GMT
TI has announced their third annual TI App Development Contest. For those of you unfamiliar with this, the objective is to develop a "creative, mind-expanding, user-friendly" flash application for the 73, 83+/SE, 89/92+/200. There are a variety of prizes in the Z80 and 68000 categories, such as trips and TI products. The contest is open until August 20. Go code now!

This does apply, see if you guys can help. I can program somewhat in .z80 ASM (For the 83+). Just today I found out the SDK is now free on TI's site. So, I downloaded it and it looks very helpful. Anyway, I still cannot find anywhere where it tells how to actually assemble an App. I get it into a .hex file, and then what... Oh, and the Wappsign program (For signing Apps) will not work. It doesn't auto detect the key, and even when I manually find it it doesn't work. If someone has answers to any or all of my questions, please post an answer or e-mail me. Thanks!
Gerhalt

Okay, I have the TI sdk, but I cannot find anything that actually tells me how to program the app. Do I simply write a C program and assemble it with the TI SDK, or is there more that I need to know?

This looks cool... I remember when they did this in the last two years. I doubt if I could make something good enough to win or anything, but I might do it for fun, anyway.
I'm about to download the SDK that they're talking about... is it as good as TIGCC?

I wish that I knew enough asm and had a big enough imagination to make an APP

Sorta On-Topic: We need more RTS games!

I realize this is a little off-topic, but it has to do with calculator programming, so it might be ok. Anyway, the Ti community is seriously lacking RTS games. There are more unfinished versions of Legend of Zelda than there are RTS games for any of the calculators, in any stage of completion! As far as I know, there are only 3 in existance or development: Command to Conquer, Total Destruction, and StarCraft 89. All are for the 68k calcs, which is understandable, if lamentable. However, it is obvious that more are needed. Here is why:
Command to Conquer - Pretty good gfx, nostub, good techtree. But: No linkplay, AI needs improvement, and work on it seems to have ended.
Total Destruction - Great unit animations, Good AI, Linkplay. But: Poor terrain/bldg graphics, needs kernel, techtree is terrible, and it is no longer updated.
StarCraft 89 - Looks promising, good gfx. But: Not close to done yet, may never be finished.
If there are any that I have missed, I would like some feedback. As it stands, we need more RTS goodness for the calc. Let's get to work!
