Voyage 400 Leaked
Posted by Michael on 1 April 2003, 05:57 GMT

Update: Please note that this was a joke. Please do not contact Texas Instruments or any of their resellers asking about this product - it does not exist.

TI is developing a new calculator, the Voyage 400. Leaked specifications and photos from TI have been floating around since Saturday. It appears to follow the tacky case colors of the existing calculators, but what really matters is that it has a 256-color LCD! It also features a 66 MHz ARM processor (presumably with 68k emulation?), 16 MB of flash, and an IR port with a "teacher select" to disable for testing. The scheduled release date is in August. Unfortunately I don't think there is sound, but this definitely is a nerd's dream.

Update (Henrik): New information received from an anonymous source indicates that there is no sound output, but there is a link port that could possibly emulate sound output, like we have seen on other calcs. Further, there is an emulation layer so that Flash applications compiled for the Voyage 200 will be able to run unmodified. We will disclose further information as we get it.

Update (Michael): ph33r my 31337 9R@pHIC5 5kilL5!

Update: Again, please don't contact Texas Instruments regarding this non-existing calculator.

Has anyone else discovered www.ticalc.org/extra or it's subfolders such as www.ticalc.org/extra/afj (April Fool's Joke?)? Very bizarre...

This is what they did.

1. '92+'8
2. Humm...the number is too small
3. 100*2

They just wanted a bigger number to make people think it was that much better.

My friends and I determined that this was an April Fool's joke at about 3AM GMT today... seeing how this thing would be slightly faster than a Game Boy Advance...

This is off the subject, but does anyone know of a place or person that I could purchase the IR link cable? Any help would be great.

It's not off-topic, you want to hook up your Voyage 400 to your computer via IR. Right?

Actually, I was looking for a IR cable that can be used to connect two voyages or be used as a remote control type device. Connecting to a computer through a IR cable would be cool too... I've read on this site that there were places you could order the cable, but all the links to the sites that sell the cable are dead links. Do you know anyone that still makes and sells the cable or someone that would possibly consider selling a used one?

There is no such thing as an IR cable. Infrared transmission is light...the very point of using it is so you have no cable.

The link does exist, says so on this very web page. I'm just wondering if there are still people that make the cable still.

There is no such thing as an IR cable. Perhaps you are referring to IR transmitter/receivers?

Yes the web site link does exist, click the link. The web page has directions on how to make an IR LINK. The web site also says that you can purchase the IR link from various web sites but most of URL's are dead.

Ye gods, man! Is it really that hard to understand? There is NO CABLE used in an IR link. That's all he's saying!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Voyage 400 Leaked

YE GODS MAN! All I'm saying is it is called an IR LINK and when I said cable I meant you connect a cable to a IR device, which connects in your IO port. This device does exist and the design for it is listed on this web site. I'm not talking about an internal device in the calculator itself, meaning it does require a cable to hook into the IO port. Hence it is a IR LINK. :-)

The link itself is wireless. The hardware has a wire.

BRIAN:
IR means 'infrared', as in LIGHT.
There is no such thing as an IR CABLE. It's be like having a tube to guide a satellite broadcast. The whole point of using IR connections is that there is NO CABLE.

(Click on link) This link will take you to a much better plan than the IR Link...it uses radio waves and doesn't require a direct line of sight...and is cheaper and easier. Very Nice! Too bad the schematics make NO sense to me. Maybe someone should make an EASY schematic plan to follow...maybe a picture tutorial...step by step...anyways here ya' go.

You were the one who kept going to the calcsoft page, weren't you?

Aaaaanyway, the schematics do look a bit confusing, but I don't know really anything like that about electronics, so I wouldn't expect it to make that much sense.

I'm not an electronics wizard or anything, but don't you need it to be connected to make a circuit? (I'm basing this off Kerm's statement)
