83+ Puzzle Games Released
Posted by Michael on 4 February 2003, 06:12 GMT

Two puzzle games have been released for the 83+. The first, FinnPack by Andreas Finne, is a flash application collection of Dots and Towers of Hanoi, both classic games.

Joe Pemberton and Joel Seligstein have released Dr. Mario as an Ion game for the 83/83+. Modeled after the NES version, this is sure to bring you infectious hours of virus killing fun.

Argh...this makes me so mad. My calculator has just died. These look so fun, too. Puzzle games are always my favorite (except Phantom Star :)

I have an SE and it was broken. Well the link port was anyways. I sent it into TI and they fixed it. Have you tried calling tech support? (You probably have)

yes, but this is a software (OS 1.15) possible bug: after turned on, the calc dies after a few seconds.
Tech support has no idea (what else is news? :)

What does that do? Does it reset the calc? Does it reset the OS (that would be handy for the jocks)

I was playing it on the bus today :) hehe, I almost missed my stop!

I'm doing the Pirate Adventure right now, if anyone cares. I'm getting closer to completing it, though I might need to take a peek at the hints text file.

Yes, text based adventure games are highly addictive. There is a game called 'Space Trader' that's made for the palm. Currently I'm porting that over to the 89. Text based adventures are nice because you can have addictive gameplay with smaller program sizes in general because of the lack of graphics. Space Trader is a hybrid of both. It incoporates a text menu and shop system, but during battles, the health is displayed graphically. Check it out here: www.palmgear.com Search for "Space Trader".

A cool example of a text adventure type game with graphics and movement is King's Quest IV. I almost beat that game but then the disks got a virus.

Actually, text takes up more memory than sprites, normally.

Really? Well, I guess that could be. An 8x8 sprite is eight bytes... a 10-character string is 10 bytes, yeah, I can see your point.

But text can be compressed more easily if you need to save some space. Graphical adventures need more memory than text adventures, because of sprites, backdrops etc...

Wonder how Detached Solutions got TI to put their games on every TI-83+se...

What Detached Solutions REALLY needs to do is create an SE-compatable version of MirageOS. Also, they need to finish TitanASM (Chasm is nice, but it only writes progs for MirageOS).

I knew that Detached Solutions were working on one...

(And to think, I asked for a program that would do that ... how long ago?) ;)
